WSU Opens Pac-10 Play With Double-Overtime Win Over Oregon State
Senior Katrina Stroh lands game-winner.

Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. --- Katrina Stroh's goal off a Christie Spear corner kick in the second overtime gave Washington State a 1-0 win over Oregon State at Patrick Wayne Valley Stadium Friday afternoon.

"It was a very good game between two good teams," Tobias said of his second win over the Beavers in three years. "Both teams had some good chances."

Stroh, a senior from Federal Way, Wash., recorded her second game-winning goal of the season and the 21st of her career.

The Cougars benefited from two yellow cards handed to Beaver defender Whitney Horn, who was sent off in the 46th minute, leaving OSU shorthanded for the remainder of the match.

"Oregon State had to play with 10 players for a long time and did a great job," Tobias said. "They were very organized and made it difficult for us to finish good chances. It reminded us a lot of our game with Portland last season."

WSU was on the attacking end throughout the match, firing 25 shots to Oregon State's 12. Junior Rachel Rodrick led the way with six, including three on goal. Stroh launched four shots, while Kim Morgan and Nicole Wilcox both had three.

Junior Sara Leibowitz went the distance in the net for the Cougars, making two saves while throwing up her fourth shutout of the season and the sixth of her career.

"It was a good game to watch and I really respect Oregon State for the way they played. We are happy with the way we played and off we go to Eugene to prepare for our next match," Tobias said.

Washington State, now 7-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Pac-10, meets Oregon Sunday at noon in Eugene. The loss dropped Oregon State's record to 7-3-2 and 0-1-0 in conference.
