No, I'd say it is the equipment managers fault.

I'm just venting. I have posted plenty during the good times. You can go back and look. I spend plenty of cash travelling to go watch the broncos play as I live several states away. I wear bronco gear. I might not post as much as others but I guarantee I want wmu to win as much as everyone else.
I went to the osu and Nebraska game last weekend. What an atmosphere. It would he easy to root for a big time school like that, but I don't. I'm a wmu fan.

That's why I have so much respect for MAC (and other "lesser" conference) fans. I was thinking about this today as I saw people walking around wearing OSU, Mich, Alabama, etc..gear
I know these people have no connection to those schools. They are just too weak of heart to be a fan of anything but a perrenial powerhouse.

RE: Fire Bill Cubit???
If WMU's football mission statement is to be the fifth to seventh best program in the MAC while churning out quality student athletes, then Cubit has done an outstanding job. Does anyone know what the WMU football mission statement really even is? If it's in fact to win a conference title in a certain time frame, then I want the administration to publicly state it like they did for the hockey program, and then show a commitment to achieving that mission. Right now, I don't see it.

The top four teams in the West are regularly as good as the best team in the East. And the reverse goes for hoops.

That is so true Colin. When I ask friends of mine that are also wmu alumni if they'd like to go to the game, the number one response is msu or um are playing. It is sad. I have one sister that graduated from msu and another from um.
I enjoy the underdog role though. Someday we will beat msu or um and it will all have been worth it for me.

RE: Fire Bill Cubit???
The Cubit debate will rage on season after season.
The Cubit train tends to be juuust about .500 or so, a bowl game about once every other year, a BCS win about every other year, a generally clean program, no "cellar dweller" EMU type seasons, but no MAC West titles. We won't be mocked in ESPN's Bottom 10, nor will we be participants in the MACC. Just an average, 'okay' program that can beat FCS and most MAC East teams, but usually makes its home around 3rd-ish in the MAC West.
The oft-used quote is typically, "Cubit is good enough not to get canned, but not good enough to get his phone ringing from larger programs."
I'm generally on the Cubit bandwagon. Still am, I suppose. But while it's great to never land in the basement, it'd be nice to go back to having meaningful games with title implications in November again.

RE: Fire Bill Cubit???
Title contention was probably lost when Carder went down, but that wasnt why we lost today.
You have to have some luck. In my opinion last year was a better chance at winning the West than this year under the current circumstances. NIU simply had more talent and a favorable schedule.
We have a favorable schedule, and our QB went down (again, not an excuse for todays loss).
We have a good enough defense to keep us in any MAC game. If the offense can jell and make plays we could win out. If not we'll probably go .500.

RE: Fire Bill Cubit???
Earlier in the season I was saying if no MAC Championship appearance or Bowl Game victory, fire Cubit. Both seem likely not to happen.
However, I've changed my mind. This team was just too beat up to do anything. I don't like bringing up big ten comparisons, but I will this time. If UM lost Robinson or MSU lost Bell, their best player for each, they'd be crap too.
I realize every team goes through its injuries, and the best team is the one that gets through them.
It's frustrating because it puts WMU back another few years and the attendance wont improve.
But this particular season, it's not Cubit's fault.

A-freaking-men.
I can't say it any better, but I will add that it is one of the reasons why excitement for WMU football is not as high as it could be. Why do non-diehards think the team isn't very good? Because the powers that be aren't fulfilling what the non-diehards want: championships.
I know I'm generalizing. I know I am. But mediocrity is not tolerated in the power conferences and it should not be tolerated in the MAC either.
I get furious when I see that minor league baseball consistently outdoes the MAC in attendance and minor league baseball is played all summer.

RE: Fire Bill Cubit???
The funny thing is, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game, as far as a coaching administration's concerned. Because if you run the team well, with recruits he gets, we should end up winning more. Hey, there's going to be crazy situations and the ball not bouncing our way against a relative equal here and there, sure.
But blowing a 21-7 lead against a team that is shooting itself in the foot during the game and doesn't have a good D? Getting crushed to a Toledo team who is good but not as good as last year, and at home on a good-weather, highly-anticipated night? Almost blowing it against a UCONN team -- which was basically much like the BSU game except we did blow that one.
Consistency. That's all I ask. Not exact consistency, but playing consistently to the upper tier of the ability of the players, week in, week out, and one quarter to the next -- nothing spectacular, but nothing anti-spectacular. Minimal penalties, minimal dropped passes or dumb passes or my-cat-saw-we-were-running-that-play... Lose to a better team or even equal team? Fine! Just play well through and through -- make the other team play better than we should be able to, to beat us in a vast majority of weeks, and for each week we don't execute well, there's a week where we overachieve. That's all I ask! Not asking for 10-2, or 9-3 years. I was upset after the UCONN win for a reason -- it's how you play the game and keep things consistent WITHIN a game, not just game to game.
