If the Knights ultimately decide to join the Big East, Conference USA officials told the Sentinel that UCF would have to pay an exit fee of about $7 million. Schools leaving C-USA must pay their annual share of television revenue under dual contracts with Fox Sports Network and CBS Sports for five years and an additional one-time $500,000 fee.

Any chance we could get the deal the old-Cusa folks got? Play home and home with C-USA members for a few years and waive the exit fee?

7 million dollar is about 35% of USM's athletic budget, I believe...ouch

$7 million is unexpected when you realize the Big East's is $5 million.

It is not that steep for the original founding members still in the conference.

If UCF doesn't pony up and pay this fee to move up to AQ then that would be a huge mistake. Hopefully this will not deter them one bit. With the student body being so huge and contributing heavily toward the athletic budget they should be able to afford this. It's getting press but I doubt it'll be an issue. UCF had to have known what this fee was all along while they were expressing a desire to move up.

I mean, it is surprising how large the fee is...if only the certainty of the 6 remaining Big East schools was firm.

Otherwise, this would be an easy decision. I don't imagine UCF administration is willing to just part with $7 million if there is so many unanswered questions about what conference they would be joining...

It still should be an easy decision. They should come close to selling out every home game, and TV revenue should increase. Their annual revenue will be a lot higher. Even if the league holds together for just three or four years they'll probably come out ahead. We can only speculate, but my bet is the numbers will work in UCF's favor to leave C-USA. I can't imagine them turning down a bid after wanting it for so long over a $7M exit fee.

RE: C-USA Exit Fees: $7 million dollars
It's all a matter of perspective, MWD. Certainly, from an athletics budget standpoint and looking at future revenues, it's an easy choice. But from a faculty or staff member at a particular university, there could be questions raised. I have family who taught at Washington Univ. (St. Louis), TCU and Georgetown. Since they have only marginal interest in athletics, I am certain there would be challenges concerning the proper use of $7 million of the university's money if their university was considering a move. Again, opposition could be minimal, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the faculty of a school invited to change conferences questions the move based on the exit fee.

And the Big East is only $5 million. Something wrong with that picture (on the part of the Big East).
