Giving up TV rights
I think all ACC teams should give up there TV right for the length of the TV deal. Not sure if there is a better way to stay comited to a league than this option. The B1G and PAC do this right?

A 20M exit fee sounds nice but all in all its just a hurdle that can be jumped if need be. Holding a schools TV rights may sound harsh but just like anything thing else if FSU wanted to leave in 5 years and say UCF was doing well in the BE then you could get UCF and you could give FSU their rights and let them go.

Aslo in a time of crisis IE: the BE, you can just weather the storm by not giving rights back

Just my opinion, Thoughts?

RE: Giving up TV rights
Quite frankly, I can't believe the conferences were able to get the teams TV rights. The B1G must have put that in place before TV rights were worth much. The Pac 12 sure there's no better conference for them to go to. Everyone else I don't see how you give up those rights.

That being said, if everyone in the Big 12, ACC or BE would do it, I say go for it. At least then you'd know when conference realignment would occur and be better prepared for it.

The BE needs those rights to survive but I don't see Uconn, Rugers, WVU, Louisville or Cincy giving them up right now. Would you? I wouldn't.

I think it is hard to start a channel unless you have firm ownership of a defined product. That is why the PAC and B1G did it.

The B1G exchanged their rights for an equity stake in the B10 Network. The Big 10 Network isn't owned by the conference it is owned by the member schools. Every year they get a payment which is essentially the return for their 3rd tier rights. The Big 12 is the only conference where they have signed over their rights as a means of securing the stability of the conference. There is no withdrawal penalty for leaving the B10. They aren't worried about their member schools leaving.

RE: Giving up TV rights
Why would you create a situation where a school could not leave if they wanted to?
Situations change, locking a school into a conference would only create "bad" feelings amongst the members.
If any ACC school wanted to leave, I would say, good luck, I'm glad for the time we had together.
Conferences change all the time. If the reason that two parties have come together no longer exist, then there is no reason to make it more difficult for them to part.

I think the $20 million buyout is a helluva deterrent.
