I believe that was one of the sanctions years. And of course the one year even Rutgers might have beaten them was the year that Rutgers had the worst team in the country and ESPN's #15 worst team of all sports of the last 25 years.

I don't know where USF is going to wind up but it is not going to be last.

UCONN and Cincy have lost all their do it all QBs and neither of them have the caliber of Running back, WRs and OL that USF has returning. Furthermore, USF has out recruited both UCONN and UC the last two years and it will show in the field this year.

On defense, we have one of the best LB corps in the Big East with a ton of depth. The secondary will be vastly improved with Johnnie Jones returning after red-shirting last year after getting shot in the neck two years ago.

What will make or break USF's season next year will be the Defensive line, specifically the interior lineman and depth up and down the line. If the defense can get back to the brand of football it played just two years ago when we beat UL, UC, Memphis, Bowling Green etc this team will compete for the BE's third or 4th bowl game. If USF just gets average QB play this year but the defense returns to form I can see at least 5 BE wins. Combine that with 2 OOC wins against UCF and FAMU and that is 7 wins right there. Penn State is a wild card game but I would expect USF to be a underdog going into that game. If we win that game that is 8 wins and a damn good inaugural BE season for a young USF squad. That is my optimistic take for USF. Realistically I think we finish 6-5 this year and will be ready to make a big run in 2006.

As far as who is going to win the BE this year, I would have to go with either Pitt or UL. UL has a lot of big-time players to replace in Lefors, Russell, Shelton and McCune. They have good talent ready to step in, but the question is whether they stay unblemished as the new starters adjust to their roles.

Pitt has everything in place to make another run but one also has to wonder how they will be able to handle the transition in style from Harris to Wannestadt. Will Pitt develop a new hard nosed personality in time after trying to finese their way to wins the last 4 years?

The wild card of the bunch is Rutgers. They have an explosive offense but a QB who can't stay away from the big mistake. On defense they have to prove they can stop anyone. Syracuse will also go through a tough transition as it tries to change from a multiple offense set to a west coast style team. Doubtful if Robinson has the horses for the 'Cuse to make a run.

I honestly don't know much about WVU, other than I know that they are going to feature one of the best true freshman RBs in the country. However, they are going to be breaking a new starter. My question about WVU is if they are ever going to go back and fully utilize the spread formation. WVU could be a wild card as well along with Rutgers.

In the last 5 years, Miami has lost 7 games to 6 different teams. When was the last time the other 112 other 1a teams beat them?

What's your point????????????
