Bowling Green newspaper opinion piece strongly urging that the Falcons go to the WCHA, rather than associate with AHA teams in a new CCHA.
The teams invited from the AHA would no longer be 12 scholarship teams, but 18. Moreover, much of what will remain in Atlantic Hockey doesn't even offer scholarships, as Bowling Green would essentially be playing the cream of the AHA, and those schools would only get better.
Bowling Green should initially dominate in a new CCHA, which wouldn't happen in the WCHA.
Travel would be expensive in the WCHA, and the cities of the WCHA would offer few if any alumni the chance to watch the team nor are those cities where BGSU recruits students. Furthermore, the schools don't really help BGSU's academic reputation (MTU and UAF excepted).
Watch for the WCHA adding schools like Minnesota State-Moorhead, Minot State, and Simon Fraser (BC) in the next several years.
Its win-win-win with some risk for BGSU if it reconstructs a new CCHA.
Its lose-lose-win (the win part being that hockey program has stability) with little upside if BGSU goes to the WCHA.
