The Motor City Bowl will be announcing their new deal with the MAC, Big Ten/Big East pretty soon. The current deal ends after this season.
The new deal will be pretty much the same with the MAC #1 or #2 playing against the Big Ten #7 (yuck! way to low of a team there) or a Big East team if the Big Ten does not have enough bowl eligible teams.
Also, the Toronto Bowl is expected to be certified next April and startup in 2006 with the MAC vs the Big East. I know many people expected it to be certified this past April, but many people thought that the NCAA was going to decertify two bowls, not one. Based on what the NCAA told Toronto bowl organizers they expect the bowl to be certfied next April, even if no other bowls get decertified..........I think the 12 game seasons have a lot to do with it. Bowl organizers have said that the Big East continues to be very supportive of the bowl idea and it will definitely match a MAC and Big East opponent against each other. No idea yet where in the standings each conference will be. It is expected that the MCB and GMAC will still have first choice of MAC schools but nothing is certain yet.

It looks like it will be Big East #5 for that bowl.
Since the MCB people are also doing the Toronto bowl, they want to mix and match on ocassion, meaning some years, it might make more sense to send a Big Ten to Toronto and a Big East team to Detroit.
I was pleased with UConn's turnout at the Motor CIty Bowl last year and Toledo brought a boatload. It was a good time.
