Hugo Bowl Ga Southern vs MTSU
MTSU fans may remember this game in 1989 which was likely the first and last football game played during a hurricane.

In 1989 I was six years old and had never heard of either school. I have heard many reference this game though.

lol, I was born in '89. I've only been following MTSU since '99, so that was way before my time.

There is the greatest dynasty in FBS history.

There is the greatest dynasty in FCS history.

The two are not intermingled as it implies that the two were somehow being played on the same field. In that 14 year period, Georgia Southern would have been lucky to scrape together a few winning seasons.

Look at the radar scan from that night. Pretty ridiculous to have played. Probably would have been postponed if it weren't for ESPN.

We beat MTSU a few times during that run. That should count for something shouldn't it? :-)

I don't think any reasonable administration would permit that game to go on and put players, coaches, staff and fans at risk today. Sometimes, things do change for the better.

I remember watching that game on tv and watching a shot of water cascading down the stadium steps like whitewater rapids and was amazed the field drained as well as it did...

Since it was such a hyped up game on ESPN national TV, I think the Ga Southern administration was hell bent on getting on TV no matter what.

Sure, but we were also still FCS at the time and you guys were a much better FCS program than we ever were, but that doesn't change the fact that Georgia Southern's remarkable run over a 14 year period has no business being compared to any 14 year run by any FBS school at any time.

I agree; there has never been a FBS school in the modern era to make a run like that so there really is nothing to compare it to.

The two have very little in common. It would be like a AAA baseball team winning 6 our 8 championships in a 14 year period and calling it the greatest dynasty in all of professional baseball.
