On the College Football preview show the guys on there last night called the Big East, THE BIG LEAST. Mikle Gottfried said the conference is not strong at all and the conference did not have alot of good teams. He did say that the champion would be between Pitt and Louisville.

I am not supporting this statement just letting you guys know what ole ESPN seems to have in store for you. They will make perception seem that the Big East is weak with comments like the Big Least thing. They will play the other BCS conferences as the end all be all with a goal of getting the BE BCS bid stripped. JMO.

I am so sick and tired of ESPN and the grip and power it has over college football. We need to support other networks and hope this madness ends soon before the sport we all love is ruined forever.

ESPN bashing BE football is nothing new. That network has been doing that non stop since the conference formed with few exceptions. I remember when Syracuse won the league in the mid 90s when they had Donovan McNabb and Marvin Harrison and ESPN sayed there were a no talent team from the "big least" (its not a new nickname)...turns out SU had maybe the two most dominate players at there position of there generation at the same time...its a stigma that has always been around Eastern football even when Penn St was here

-- Ask Pitt fans what kind of coach Mike Gottfried was...he basically ran there program into the ground in the early 90s

-- ESPN will be kissing our butts come bball season though

Mike was at UC briefly and did a good job. He is I believe a major organizer of the Mobile Bowl so he would be anti Big East anyway.
The seaon will prove out that there are three or four really good Big East teams this year. By next year there may be 7 or 8! Lets get this Party Started!

ESPN pisses me off anymore with their constant BEAST bashing. IT is old news for sure, but I can't watch any of their college football shows without just seething. They can just keep their man love for the ACC, and the BEAST will be just fine thank you.

You're talking about the same ESPN that kisses the ACC's ****** left and right? I couldn't care less about what ESPN thinks because, if at the end of the day, Louisville and/or Pitt finishes in the Top 10, the other in the Top 15 or 20 and another squad finishes in the Top 25 I couldn't care less what ESPN says.

Who's LU and how do we know how anyone will do against tough opponents before the season starts. How will USC or LSU do? It's all speculation and I speculate LU 03-confused and the BEast will be fine.

And don't forget the Pac-10 who got zero respect and were called a one or two team conference until USC started winning championships.

I'm hoping that Fox is planning on making a run at espn by competing more. I noticed that shortly after espn announced they would be going into recruiting web sites by introducing their own scouts inc that FOX launced a plan to purchase scout.com.

It sure would be nice to see Fox give them a run for their money.

Just relaying the word. I do not agree with it nor do I agree with the climate ESPN/ABC/Disney has created in collegiate football. And no Wilkie, it was not intenioned as a flame post.

The Big East has to take care of business. My Pirates have to take of business. I believe it will all work out in the end. At least I hope so.

Not saying it will happen, or there's even a good chance of it happening, but I'd love to hear what ESPN has to say if UC beats Penn State 03-razz

Won't matter. Outside of the Big East, the two BCS teams ESPN bad-mouths the most are ND and PSU. Although they love to air anything ND because they know that means $$$.

Maybe it's a northeastern thing in terms of cfb with them? The only BE teams they ever had anything good to say about were Miami and VT. As a matter of fact, it could be said that VT owes it 'near-elite' reputation to three things - taking SU's gameplans and making them their own; following K-State's cupcake scheduling route to instant success; and ESPN overhyping them.

Cheers,
Neil

Let's be honest. Miami and VT ruled the Big East for the last 10 years and now they are gone. The CUSA had no powerhouses. Put them together and you have a conference with plenty to prove. The teams in the Big East now are good and they have lots of upside, but again they have lots to prove. Get over what the analysts have to say.

Win and everything else will take care of itself!!

Huh?

Miami didn't rule only because she had a three-to-four year period that NCAA violations hurt her program.

VT didn't come close to ruling the BE, except for Vick's two years.

From 1993-1998 VT's BE record was 31-11 and SU's was 30-12. During that time span they were 3-3 against each other.

They then got hot with Vick at QB for two years (with Miami getting the BCS bid in Vick's sophomore year), and then after he left they were basically a .500 team in league play.

Hardly seems like the Hokies 'ruled' anything. Unless of course you are referring to them 'ruling' the ACC.

Cheers,
Neil

Obviously Miami was far the better of the two. Overall, I'd still say Va Tech was 2nd best. Certainly if Miami didn't have to go through the turmoil of NCAA sanctions, then they would likely have won those years, too.
