I shouldn't be surprised
I was at the Johnson City Dick's store recently and noticed that not only did they have tons of UT stuff, but they even have an Appalachian State display! I couldn't believe how far we've fallen that one of our (former) bitter rivals would have a display of apparel for sale IN JOHNSON CITY!!!! No way you'll find ETSU stuff for sale in Boone.

To think our athletic program is anywhere close to where it used to be is absurd.

Did the Dicks store have an ETSU display also? As long as ETSU allows them to, I believe that ETSU merchandise would sell well there.

Regardless, they should put on display whatever sells best. If Appy State stuff sells as well or better than other teams, it should be on there. The fact is there there are many in this region that connect more with them than ETSU. I doubt that many in Boone connect better with ETSU. And I think thats a cultural thing, not having much (but some) to do with Appy State's success in football. And for any business wanting to make a profit, UT stuff is a must around here. It will obviously outsell ETSU soundly- and would have 10 years ago or 20 years ago.

The Johnson City Walmart has App State duct tape. That would NOT have happened 10 or 20 years ago.

10 years ago Appy was a rival, they aren't now. People are going to sell what will make them money. I travel to Asheville and Greenville, SC alot. There is a store in Asheville that has had ads running on the radio saying that have
a large selection of UT stuff. Also there is a store in Greenville behind Jones University that I have often seen
UT items displayed in the windows. If it is will sale people are going to offer it.

It has everything to do with App football. How many Miami Hurricane fans were there in the 80's and early 90's versus today? Everybody likes a winner, especially in football.
I'm not suprised at all by Dick's Sporting Goods having an App display in Johnson City. It's fitting. Could someone take a picture of it and post it here?

Dave Mullins can take pride in that. But we can take pride in that those people will soon be gone from ETSU.

Could someone also drive by campus tonight, take a picture of the stands while the communist kickball consortium is going on and post it as well? I would love to see the throngs of crazed socialists cheering on our "ranked" soccer team.

I'm as big a Buc football person as you will find....but I don't get this take it out on soccer routine. I understand that the soccer team took Buc football's place in the varsity line-up... I despirately desire football's return and if ETSU had to go down to the minimum amount of non-revenue sports to make that happen...I understand. I would pull that trigger in a second. In the meantime...I will not campaign against soccer unless there is solid evidence that soccer players are indeed hurting ETSU athletics.

There actually seemed to be quite a few people there just by driving by. I would likely go if it were free- I sure as hell wont pay to see it.

Well last year I also saw about 20 UTC shirts in the Elizabethton Walmart. Couldn't figure that one out. Didn't' look like they ever sold any.

RE: I shouldn't be surprised
I'm just tired of it being shoved down our throats as a replacement to American football as if we're supposed to support it the same way. And it's not just ETSU, but ESPN is even trying to do it because it's popular elsewhere. I personally couldn't give a rat's arse about the sport itself, and it goes against what every school in the state is doing other than Memphis.
That said, I do hope they're successful, as much money as the university is blowing on it they need to win.
