first off as a cherokee i find this whole mascot & name ****** (please excuse my language)is ludicrous. the only names i find degrating is redmen and the infamous redskins. thats like havin the atlanta negros or the birmingham n'words. but names such as braves, indians, seminoles, sioux ect ect is a great thing. comon whats next teams such as vikings, raiders, bucaneers, celtics, fighting irish, pirates will be considered racist towards white people. its ****** we all should be proud of. its remembering heritage.

I can see where Redmen or Redskins can be offensive, but when a school refers to a specific tribe, then I think it should be up to that tribe to decide whether or not they find it offensive.

Somebody representing the Apache nation (just an example) has no right to force Florida State to drop the Seminole name when in fact the Seminole tribe doesn’t have any problem with it.

like you as said cardhouse. as long as the certain tribe has no problem w/ it there shouldn't be a problem. but the seminole tribe outside of florida actually does have a problem w/ fsu using the name and has criticised(sp) the seminole tribe of florida for publicaly saying that its alright to use the word. so who knows what can and will happen to fsu. i can't speak for the other tribes that names are using but i'm here in florida so i can speak on the noles

As Chief Osceola of the Seminole Nation said so beautifully over the weekend: "We have the White Man again telling what the Native Americans can/can't have all over again."

Ah...the White Man screwing things up....again.
