ACC baseball has 13 members?
How do you think ACC baseball will work with 13 members? Just plug Pitt into one of the divisions?

With the added revenue generated for Pitt and Cuse I'm sure each program will be adding some sports. I'm sure Cuse will be fielding a baseball team in no time.

Within 5 years of joining the ACC, I'll bet we have a baseball team up and running. And it will be a competitive one since we have good coaches to poach from our area.
Cheers,
Neil

RE: ACC baseball has 13 members?
It actually works out better than if there were 14 baseball teams.
As it stands now each ACC team has to find an OOC series to play each year during conference play because of the 11 game conference schedule. With 13 teams that means 12 conference series during the 12 weeks of conference play.

That's OK. Georgia Tech does not have men's or women's soccer.
Does Pitt field a Lax team?

RE: ACC baseball has 13 members?
I imagine if Syracuse restated baseball, the ACC would probably cap the number of baseball opponents at 10 or 12 (30 or 36 games). Play everyone in your division, then 4 to 6 from the other division. The SEC uses this same format - 15 games against division opponents, 15 against the other division, which means schools play all but one other conference member each year.
If the ACC wound up with 15 for baseball, it could go to three divisions and still play 30 games, but everyone would have a bye week during conference play. The only independent in the ACC footprint is Longwood, a school in Virginia that is still without a conference home despite being in Division I for several years.

There are a lot of very good baseball programs the we play weekday games with (weekend series are generally for conference games). East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, UNC-W all have really good programs.

No Lax team. But I bet this would be something that Pitt would look into. Are there men and women Lax?
Is wrestling big in the ACC? Pitt is not up to B1G standards in wrestling, but it has a solid team that currently resides in the EWL, which includes WVU and a smattering of local colleges in PA and OH.

RE: ACC baseball has 13 members?
One thing I recall from the last ACC raid is that Miami (FL) was looking forward to not have to send their baseball team to the northeast so many times. They might ask for independence while the ACC has an odd number of programs since the ACC has added 2 to 4 northern teams.
I broke down a lot of the Olympic sport implications in this thread: http://www.ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=515497
The ACC additions (especially if Rutgers and Connecticut are in) look very smart all around, not just for football and basketball.
