Pod 1 - BC, UConn, Syracuse, Pitt
Pod 2 - Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Pod 3 - Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest
Pod 4 - Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami

You do away with divisions. In football, you play every team in your pod plus 2 games each against the other 3 pods (9 conference games), then send your top 2 teams to the championship game. More or less protects against a crappy division winner getting there.

In hoops, you play home/home against your pod and 1 game against all other schools (18 games).

Pod #4 is mutually assured destruction in football.
Pod #1 and #3 is mutually assured destruction in basketball.

I disagree. FSU has had to face Miami and Clemson every year. Miami has had FSU and Georgia Tech every year. Plus, Miami could very well be headed for an extended period of punishment, not to mention that they haven't done squat since they've been IN the ACC.

As for the basketball thought, I'm pretty sure that's what the schools in 1 and 3 would ultimately prefer. Plus, their goal will be to be tournament tested.

Pod 4 beats up on itself, and UNC/VT sneak into the title game with a bit of scheduling help and a relatively easy pod. A pox on that.

Maybe the 4 pod winners hold a 4 team playoff to decide the winner of the title to create a 14 week season.

I say do away with divisions entirely. Each team has 2 to 4 rivals they play every year. After that everybody rotates. Top 2 play in the title game. Rotating without divisions worked for the Big 10, why not the ACC?

Not a bad idea at all. Have a 8 game schedule which would allow for 4 OCC games.

Pitt Rivals:

Cuse
Maryland
BC
Miami

RE: So what do the Divisions look like
I suspect there will still be divisions. At least that is what Coach K and Roy Williams have been led to believe.

I think they are almost giddy since I bet they see one division of the "old" ACC (with FSU instead of Maryland) and one with the newbies (except for Maryland) in it. 03-lmfao

Cheers,
Neil

With WVU off to the SEC, UT seemingly out of the picture now and ND/PSU unlikely, who do you think will be #15 and #16?

RE: So what do the Divisions look like
I still say split them geographically. For the sake of rivalries, travel expenses and time away from school. I'm thinking about the overall athletic program here, not just football. Bus rides over time in and out of airports any day. After all these are students first aren't they? But I guess they could have different divisions for the other sports. It just doesn't make sense to me to have to have the Syracuse swim, volleyball, or cross country team having to constantly fly to Miami, Atlanta or Greenville SC during the week to play games when they could take buses or short flights and miss less class time and have to dip less into the coffers.

XLance hates us for some reason. I hope we get in just to annoy him. I also look forward to unleashing SF Husky on him. 03-thumbsup

Sounds about right. I think you have to reunite Miami with AU and Pitt. SU/Pitt also make sense to play BC and VaTech every year. I'd love to develop a rivalry with Maryland.

I've been telling you guys for several years.....Notre Dame will be in the ACC. I know 15, you guys pick 16.

But just to give you something to argue about/ponder.
How about Louisville to the SEC and Vandy moves to the ACC?

Since 2003, I've always felt that the ACC had a shot at ND, particularly with that administration at that time.

Still believe the Big Ten has the inside track and is the conference that can afford to wait on ND the longest.

But it wouldn't surprise me if ND eventually decided on the ACC. I'd imagine UConn would then be the final piece of the puzzle.

Cheers,
Neil

Maybe it'll be a good thing. I hope the BE can keep its AQ. Just add Memphis, Temple, UCF to get back to 9 and hope there aren't anymore defections. I think more inclusion is a good thing.
