RE: Official Hockey Recruiting Thread
I'm slacking a bit. WMU has picked up two more verbal commitments in the last few weeks.

Josh Pitt from the Central Canada Hockey League and Corey Schueneman from the Detroit Little Caesars U18 team have committed to be Broncos.

Heisenberg's list has Pitt coming to campus this fall (2012) and Schueneman listed as a 2014 or 2015 recruit.

I'll update the first post in a little while.

RE: Official Hockey Recruiting Thread
Pitt is a 6'2 center who is currently 3rd in the CCHL in goal scoring. He's got 36 goals in 57 games. He's tied for the league lead in PPG (which is a nice sight for these eyes).
---
Couldn't find much on Schueneman, other than he's a 16 year old defenseman. He was drafted by the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) and will be playing for them this coming winter.

I'm going to hold my breath on Pitt. The CCHL is a really weak league.

How can you not like a league that has an Yzerman division and awards the "Bogart Cup"?

CCHL is probably weak compared to the USHL or the BCHL.

But this league has also produced the likes of Patrick Sharp, Jimmy Howard, Claude Giroux, Martin St. Louis and the Captain himself. There are gems to be found!

"Hey, Lucy....we gotta' problem" Interesting conumdrum concerning next years defense recruits! Every indication is that the top six...by everybody's assessment...maybe the top six in the country are staying! And Matt Stewart filled in very well when called upon. WHERE WILL THE NEW D_RECRUITS GO ON THE ROSTER! We carry seven D....we aren't losing any....yet it appears we have 3 "top" recruits...all highly regarded...coming in. Do you really think this will hold? Certainly suspect that Mike McKee and maybe Dienes for that matter aren't going to want to sit....or play a very limited number of games!

Dienes is 2013. Morrison could be 2012 or 13 according to the thread. Witkowski, Tennyson and (90%+ likely) DeKeyser will all be gone after next season. McKee would have to fight for ice time for his freshman year and then there will be 3 starting spots open. If he's as talented a player as he sounds, he'll likely get plenty of ice time even with everyone returning. Not a huge concern.

If it came down to it, Brown would make a pretty spiffy forward.

This year's roster was 18 forwards (+Cichy redshirting), 7 D, 3 goalies. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if they preferred 1 or 2 more D in case of injury and 1 or 2 less forwards ideally. 17-9-3 maybe.

To me, an even bigger question is who gets the C now that Slater is gone. His leadership is a HUGE part of what we've been doing the past couple of years. Hopefully someone can replace that and lead us well next year and into the future.

I think the 2 A's become 2 C's. Just a guess, not even educated.

Yeah... college hockey recruiting doesnt work that way. Just because they sign doesn't mean they are coming next season.

If we don't lose any of our defensemen I think maybe they bring in Morrisson and that's it. Idk how many forwards they will bring in. You get Cichy and Warda back too for next season. Although I'm not sure how good Warda will be after the injury. His game was speed.. and that may be hampered now.

Yeah, that would make sense. I guess my main point is that I truly hope our new C (or co-Cs) can continue the great leadership that Slater provided to this team.

Crazy idea! If Ian doesn't go pro....keep him on as a coach in some capacity....his leadership abilities appear to be unlimited....and today, a masters degree trumps a bachelor's.

I don't see how Ian goes pro. He was a marginal college hockey player at best. Great leader... but on the ice didn't really bring much more than energy and physicality. You need some skill to play pro hockey at a high level (AHL and to a lesser extent ECHL). Squires is the only one with the skill to make it at a higher level... the rest of the senior class will be out in the beer leagues if they chose to continue their hockey careers.

WMU doesn't have a hockey operations grad assistant position... I believe Blashill was given money to have one but he used to pay his assistants more. And they have the volunteer assistant position, which I believe is filled.

I know there is a limit on coaches/helpers in hockey... just dont know if WMU is at its max.

JS - you'd have to admit it would be a great continuation, wouldn't it?

RE: Official Hockey Recruiting Thread
Now that Tennyson is gone, it looks like Kenny Morrison will be making his way to campus this fall.

Facca said Kenny's game is very similar to Tennyson's. He has (13-15-28) through 52 games with the USHL's Omaha Lancers.

If we don't lose any more players between now and October, our defensmen will look like this:

DeKeyser (JR) - Witkowski (SR)
Haar (SO) - Stewart (SO)/Morrison (FR)
Oesterle (SO) - Brown (JR)

Hargrove, Pitt, Morrison, and Laporte. We get some more size up front. We'll have a great combination of size and speed for the next couple of years. Hopefully Morrison can step up and take tennyson's place. Otherwise, i like what i saw with the few games stewart played.

More size can't hurt. Ferris was pretty big compared to us, as was UMD from what I remember.
