Sorry, our W's at Minn and Purdue don't exactly count as blow-outs. I am not too concerned with the score while the clock is running. Just the end. If I recall, Mr. Kill threw in Justin Anderson on 4th down near his own end-zone to preserve...Um, not a blow-out. And, while MINN was more convincing...I was happy it ended.

After watching the oSu game last night I got the feeling that we are not even close to getting an invite.

The good things we have going for us are the Chicago TV market that we don't have a huge following and we can play Texas and OU at Soldier Field to make them OK with the deal.

Thats funny because I was going to say the opposite. For a 10 top ten team, OSU was very underwhelming and I think NIU could stick with them. Unless you are talking about the interview with the old coot and ESPN claiming it takes 300 million dollars to compete. It takes that much if you don't know what you are doing.

My opinion had nothing to do with the team. It was only based on their facilities and thinking about how much money it would take to just get us built up with the lowest level facilities in the conference.

I guess its up to OU.

So you are thinking of a B12 conference like this...

Boise St
Air Force
Nevada
Hawaii
Fresno St
San Diego St

NIU
So Miss
Tulsa
Houston
LT or Tulane
Iowa St

Yes but like they stated in the broadcast, OSU follows Oklahoma when they leave, and then Texas leaves. Im not sure if the new conference will have direct ancestory for the Big 12, but I do think the day is coming when those left out in the Big 12 will combine with the best mid majors and form a large conference.

If we beat Kansas, does that mean Doeren has to coach them next year?

This is another game where I can see NIU just blow-torching the defense. Don't turn the ball over, and it'll happen.

Yes, this is a road game at a BCS team, but this is nothing new to this group of players. When you consider over the last two years (and I refuse to count the Iowa State game), we're 2-2 at BCS teams and are +4 in scoring in those 4 games, I don't think we need to be worrying about them having stage fright.

The defense is still a question mark because it hasn't face an actual passing offense. I think it'll struggle at times, but Kansas doesn't have the horses to keep up.

45-28.

KU fan here. Trying to get away from the realignment stuff to talk about the actual game.

1. Our D-coordinator planned for McNeese to run an I-form/play action offense. They did the opposite and spread us out. For the first half they successfully moved the ball on us exclusively through screens and 3-5 yd routes. In the second half we were able to sniff those out a lot better and essentially shut them down except for a couple botched plays. 1 TD pass due to our defender in coverage losing his shoe, and the other was our transfer LB who hasn't played in 2 years missing a wide open tackle on a screen. Not saying those are good excuses, but our downfalls defensively in week 1 are things that can easily be fixed. If that LB doesn't get his head on right this Saturday, we have Huldon Tharp coming back from injury, he was a standout freshman LB 2 years ago. Missed last season due to injury.

2. We no longer have a true passing offense. We only attempted 10 passes last game. There will definitely be more this week, as there was no reason for us not to run when we have 4 talented RBs and our o-line was dominant against McNeese. Still, our coaching staff wants 60-40 in favor of the run.

3. I don't think this has anything to do with who has the horses. NIU has the edge in experience, and that's what I believe gives them the edge here. Something like 70% of our roster are underclassmen. We have a ton of young guys who are starting/seeing the field.

Hey, welcome to the board. Thanks for contributing some real football talk and staying out of the mud.

Is Snickelfritz a Stalag 17 reference? If so, that's some quality obscurity you're struttin'.
