3 bowl games and 2 MAC title games? You're right, that's pretty good. Because he's the best, I'm sure his teams have brought it in the postseason. Let me look...
Oh. They're 0-5 with an average margin of defeat of 16.7 points.
Here is the question: Who is the best coach in the MAC?
Its not who is the most perfect coach in the world.
Even looking at 3 bowls and 2 division titles compare that with any other MAC program since 2005.
CMU (4 bowls, 3 division titles)
NIU (4 bowls, 2 division titles)
Ohio (3 bowls, 2 division titles)
Miami (3 bowls, 2 division titles)
Ball State (2 bowls, 1 division title)
Toledo (2 bowls, 0 division titles)
BGSU (2 bowls, 0 division titles)
WMU (2 bowls, 0 division titles)
Akron (1 bowl, 1 division title)
Buffalo (1 bowl, 1 division title)
Temple (1 bowl, 0 division titles)
EMU (0 bowls, 0 division titles)
Kent (0 bowls, 0 division titles)
Not even talking about the coach here, you can't even put the total accomplishments earned at most MAC schools since 2005 against what Ohio has done. No matter how talented Addazio is he simply couldn't be considered better than Solich, neither he or Temple has done anything.
Looking further at the top group of performers, Solich has a 5-1 record against Miami. There is no arguing that Solich isn't the top coach in the MAC East.
In the MAC West that is a different story. CMU has a 4-0 record against Solich and Toledo is 3-0. Northern Illinois is 0-2 against the Bobcats.
From the standpoint of overall performance, Ohio has been #2 in the MAC since 2005 behind CMU. CMU though now is coached by Enos and thus far hasn't looked very good.
Solich is the King of the MAC East and most accomplished HC in the MAC. I'm not sure if he's the most talented of the current coaches in the MAC though. That is all together a different question. Ohio was at the bottom of the MAC for 4 decades prior to Solich which makes what he's done all the more impressive.
From 1983 to 2004 Ohio was 69-170 (.294 winning)
From 2005 to current Ohio is 41-36 (.532 winning)
He hasn't done an outstanding job, but he's been very solid against the FBS track record at Ohio.
