No thanks. We wouldnt and shouldnt be adding teams just for the sake of adding teams. If we lose a member we replace that member with a school that has upside and value to CUSA. The only way I would be in favor of adding more than one team is if we got a package agreement deal with the academies. If we lose one, give me Air Force, Navy and Army to get to 14 teams. Thats the only way I would be willing to add more than one team. Wth that agreement we could have football divisions that look like this and I'm sure all members would be happy with this:

CUSA North:

1. Navy
2. Army
3. Air Force
4. Marshall
5. East Carolina
6. Tulsa
7. Memphis

CUSA South: (Assuming we lose Houston...or somebody else:)

1. UTep
2. Rice
3. Southern Miss
4. Tulane
5. UCF
6. UAB
7. SMU or Houston....assuming on of those left.


If CUSA couldnt work a deal with the academies and decided to only add one school then the list of candidates would probably be long. Whoever it would be I would hope that the new school would have a nice basketball tradition and a supporting cast to succeed in football (location, recruiting grounds, nice tv market etc.). The only exception would be a football only invite to try and lure Navy (doubtful unless the other three academies could be involved). Here on the East Coast ODU would be the prime candidate for CUSA and what it looks for in a school.

CUSA West:

1. Air Force
2. UTep
3. Tulsa
4. Rice
5. Tulane
6. Southern Miss
7. SMU/Houston


CUSA East:

1. Navy

5. Memphis
6. UAB
7. UCF


Moved So. Miss to the West for travel considerations.

CUSA could come up with a new tradition of the Academies playing each other...call it the "Academies Cup" and award it to the top football Academy in the country each year. It would be nice little rivalry between the three schools for bragging rights and the interest in those games would be huge.

UAB, Southern Miss and memphis agreed several years ago to remain in the same division: the bus rides for non-revenue sports are an important cost saving for all three programs.
