Interesting. I mean I know you guys are coming off a bowl game, but 10,000 is a huge, huge accomplishment.
I know it came from the AD, but something sounds off about that.
Care to expand upon the reasoning behind that?

RE: Season Tickets?
FIU apparently doesn't sell single game tickets (at least before gameday). What they have been doing the last few years is they'll schedule a big draw like UCF (and to a lesser extent Duke...last year it was Rutgers) and then only sell them $42 "season tickets". The visiting fans get all the games, although the vast majority will only use the 1 game they really want. This allows FIU to announce higher attendance numbers for every game, not just one. It also let's them say they have 10,000 season tickets, although, like FIU Panther Fan noted, 30-40% or more are just visiting teams fans buying the 1 game and getting the rest free. It's not a bad strategy if your only goal is boosting your average attendance figures, but it doesn't do much for your actual attendance or overall ticket revenue.

RE: Season Tickets?
There are other reasons to do it, the main one being in providing a good gameday experience and hoping that those local fans of other schools (USF, Rutgers, UCF) adopt FIU as their home team or just come to enjoy college football. I think it's a good idea and we can afford to do it (we still cover our debt service and then some). On a side note, before this practice, we were averaging 4,000 season tickets, taking everything out, I think we have added about 2k-3k new FIU season ticket holders, which is still a (50%-75%) increase.

It's not an unheard of strategy. I know a lot of sports teams will package their more desirable games with less desirable ones. I don't think you'll see a lot of UCF or Duke fans coming to more then 1 game, though. A good idea would be for FIU to have a program that allows the fans of those schools donate their tickets to the other games to local charities. Do you know if they do? It would be a win-win for everyone.

Exactly. UCF will account for 3-4k of those season tickets, while FIU fans will be around 5-7k of it, as it stands now. It's still a hefty increase percentage wise over last season, and until FIU can't get their base to a higher number and expand their young fan base, this is actually a pretty good strategy. One of one of several stategies used by SBC schools, like FAU playing home game in Detroit last season, to boost their numbers and comply with the 15,000 average.

MT is selling Family-4-Pack deal consisting of four reserved seat tickets, four hot dog vouchers, four Pepsi vouchers and four rally towels for the "anticipated sell-out" of the Georgia Tech game.

Only during the "Banjo Fest"! If we sell Pork Belly on a stick like Troy does at games, then you can push that number up to 20,000.

I'm hoping that FAU will do something similar as well once we have some bigger name schools coming in to the new digs. Since you can use tickets sold it simply makes sense. And you never now, if the experience is good some of the locals might just come back on other game days as folks noted.
I love the idea of donating the unsused other tickets if people want to. YMCA, Boys town etc..

RE: Season Tickets?
USA announced today that ticket sales stand at 8,637 with a week to go. That's around 200 more than last year's final number, not a huge increase but still moving in the right direction. With next year's schedule, I'll expect another increase.

Up 70% would get us to near 5,000.

RE: Season Tickets?
More positives happening at UNT. Mentioned season ticket sales being up over 70%.
In addition Mean Green Club membership has grown from a past record of 703 to over 1,000 (1,026)
http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArtic...=205247662
The student section seats 8,000 and students get in free, however due to demands they will need to pickup tickets for stadium entry.
Due to the high demand of student tickets for the 2011 North Texas Football season, Mean Green students will have the ability to secure their seat for each home football game, starting on Monday of home game weeks. Students must present their UNT student ID to pick up their ticket.
