RE: "Official" Fall Practice Thread
Is there a full scrimmage next Saturday?

By then the two-deeps should be updated.

I'd like to see the reps at QB - Gillett vs. Benz.

Sounds like we are really thin at TE.

Must have been Alexander Gudejko. Sucks for him but us fans will be relieved that is was not Hoskins. One of those freshmen TE's is going to have to step up quickly.

Gilllett may not be the most accurate passer but he seems to have a lot of the other stuff - leadership, running ability, football smarts, etc. Reminds me a little of Ron Adams.

It was Xander Gudejko. Broken would have been better than the reality. Dislocated and broken. Unfortunate as he looked to take over the roll Hoskins had last year.

Dylan Brooks knee was wrapped. he looked to be favoring it. T. Russell is fast but looks more like a WR than a TE at 215

Russell looked bigger then 215, he looked about 225 and you are right he does look like a WR be would be a big target for Gilbert to throw to I think. Yes we are very thin on TE. Any suggestions on options? Russell may be the answer next year but I don't think he is ready from what I've seen.

Xander, really nice kid, was doing great at TE and really wanted to play. Also the backup Long Snapper. Sad story. Speedy recovery Xander.

Man, I can hardly wait until this weekend for 'more hard hitting action from Rynearson' (sounds like a commercial).

Good chance for a lot of locals to get out there and add your observations to NUPudge's 'Week One Notes".

Interesting that RE speaks well of the WR's and TE's.

He also said that there is a scrimmage on Sunday. Anyone know what time? Is it open to the public?

I think he was mistaken. I believe that the article goes on to say that the open practice is the 20th (saturday).

English must really likes his newcomers.

He must have cited 1/2 by name including Scott, Reed, Russell, Brooks, the JUCO LBs, Hill, Brumfield, Allen, etc.

Mike Hart on the coaching staff?
Is he a GA or a full time coach?

I want to give English the benefit of the doubt but I saw other things but again I would trust him. My comments/views will come tomorrow morning. I do agree with the Blumfield comments..

Actually the 20th is media day, there's no practice that day.

Also of note if anyone cares, former Michigan RB Mike Hart is on the staff. Expect it to officially be announced soon.

That was my take: Media day the 20th. Scrimmage 21st.

And I neglected to add Cotton's name to the list of English mentions. I believe his was mentioned first and I missed it first time listening to the interview.

RE: "Official" Fall Practice Thread
Hi EMU fans, 02-13-banana

Here are my notes from what I’ve seem during the practices earlier today & yesterday.
-The team was working 9 on 7’s, 7 on 7’s and 11 on 11’s,
-Lots of good hitting and tackles
-The team workout speed was off-the-chain (this really jumps out).
-The freshmen and JUCO’s are quickly learning play-calls, rotations, schemes, roles, and picking-up the speed of the game.
-Overall everyone bodies has changed and developed from last season. The guys seemed to have brought into English OTC (Off-season-Training-Condition). 04-cheers

RB: 04-cheers
-Again, the RB's competition is very interesting; returning player (Snoop) has shown much improvement.
-As English’s s said, Ryan Brumfield is playing like a vet and I can see why English was so high on him outta HS. (Just ask our LB’s and DB’s who are trying to corral Brumfield on the field. Brumfield is hard to find behind the big linemen and by the time you see him, it’s too late. He can change directions in 1 step. He has lined up with the 1st team to take snaps.

QB: 03-zzz
-Gilbert looks like he is getting better with his throws, footwork etc… (He still needs much work). His running presents the defense problems.
-Benz throws well, needs to get faster; I wish we could combine the two QB’s into one.
-Iannotti need to cut some weight or move to another position, maybe a LB?

OL: 04-bow
-Still is looking very good. I am not sure if they are that good or if the DL is not that good. When the offense decides to go big, Karcher placed OL size people across the whole line (including where the TE are).
-I know Coach Anderson must be smiling. The passing blocking, sweeps are better then before. They used many difference line packages. Lots of depth at all OL positions.

TE: 05-nono
-I disagree with English on this position. I’ve seen freshman T Russell drop too many passes when he’s open, (must not like contact). Dylan Brook was icing his leg, from what I’ve seen Brook’s needs work.

WR: 05-nono
-English and I disagree again I’m not impressed the WR’s, either our DB are much better or we are not that strong at this position.
-K. Thomas and Donald Scott looked good (that’s it). I’m hoping one of the freshmen step-up (D. Reed) he is smart and understands how to get open.
-J. Shelby where are you? Maybe K. Strange could step into this slot.

DL: 03-banghead
-Devin Henderson is still MIA on the field. If anyone has a contact please ask them because everyone is hush-hush on this.
-The defense played some 4-4 (safety walking up to stop the run and for blissing), it looked good.. DL People were still having their butts chewed out by coaches.

LB: 03-shhhh
Nothing latest from what I thread before, hard hitters, quick to the ball and speedy. I still see them taking bad angles to tackles. Cudworth, Poole & English played a lot with the 1st team. The JUCO’s (Cudworth & Poole) has locked on these positions.

DB: 04-rock
-D Scott is receiving reps with the 1st team. I still believe K. Thomas and M. Rose will stay starters.
-The DB’s coverage’s were good except, when Donald Scott was burning them on post routes. I was hopeful that other freshmen/sophomores would have put added pressure on the upper classmen.
-Rouse will be good because he is so damn quick. Pollard (?? What happen to this kid) he is getting less snap
-Cotton has moved in to take snaps with the 1st and 2nd teams. (I think Cotton is moving up because injuries). I am not sure if he will be able to push LT or M. Cardwell out of this position (RS him?). I think he will be good for us, he is big, strong and fast (weak-side LB)?

ST: :ncaabbs:
-Looks good with D. Scott and D. Reed back there returning punts and Kickoffs, causing problems with their speed...
-We could return a few to the house this year (touchdowns). I know our offensive starting field position will be much better.

Coaches: 01-lauramac2
-The coaches are in player’s faces about mistakes. Karcher, Delgado, Snow and Anderson, are acting like a cowboy the way they are riding the whole team.
-English’s challenging everyone and staying in their face wanting it done correctly. Yes he’s sick of losing.

Disclaimer: Before anyone starts knocking my comments please remember I am not an expert and these are my interpretation on the field. I would trust English comments more then mines. 03-melodramatic

Thanks for the great insights NUPudge! I look forward to seeing Brumfield in action. Who is holding the edge right now between Greene and Sherrer? (I'm not familiar with who Snoop is.)

RE: "Official" Fall Practice Thread
NuPudge:

Couple of corrections on names.

The safety is L. Thomas. K. Thomas is the WR. Easy to confuse their first names.

The QB's name is Gillett.

And I'm SPECULATING that Henderson hasn't been cleared by the NCAA. Do remember that the NCAA, I believe, can toss out courses and cause a player to come up short of transferable hours even if the player has an associate's degree.

BTW, very positive report.

This is the best report I can ever remember at EMU with new talent who can make contributions within the 2-deeps.

I wonder what's up with Pollard. Maybe something we don't know.

I saw some new names on the roster, John Williams, Travis Wheeler, Aaron Richmond but the name that hit me was Watson the TE:
