Yes...very good points made here. I do take exception to lumping retirement and SS into the mix. Those are things people actually paid into and the government should contractually pay out. Unfortunately...GD politicians borrowed(stole) that money. Borrowing from one's self?...OK01-wingedeagle

Obama has stolen a page from the Clinton playbook: Scare the hell out of old people.

"Those nasty Republicans are gonna steal your Social Security check if you don't help me stop them!"

That page is ripped from the GOP manual. It goes something like this. "Those nasty Democrats are gonna kill the elderly with "death panels"

I'm not going to debate the death panel concept with you, but it is true that a number of GOP/conservatives have stated that Obamacare will have death panels and have used this in messaging to seniors.

But tell me which political party has asked for votes from seniors over the past several decades by stating the following argument: "If you vote for Republicans, they will kill social security...". Statements like these have been made numerous times and spans decades. Scaring old people IS a tactic used by Democrats. That's a fact. Correct your post or lose your credibility.

Yes...very good points made here. I do take exception to lumping retirement and SS into the mix. Those are things people actually paid into and the government should contractually pay out.

The payouts exceed the inputs for a significant number, and of course it was always a bad proposition. That it was set up for, and has been used as, a constant threat. It's used for fear mongering and threats, which is what gov't does to get its way.

The sad thing is that properly invested and managed the SS system could have been a wonderful thing. RR workers can attest to that.

It is like every damn government program ever conceived. It expanded beyond it's original scope and budget. Once politicians figured out that it could be used a tool...they destroyed it.
