[split] CBSSports on USF oncampus stadium
USF would never build a football stadium as crappy as what UCF plays in. There would be a huge dropoff in attendance going from a state of the art nfl stadium to a craphole.

Id like an OCS, but only if its built high quality and with 50k+ seats. I'd prefer 60

To be fair to UCF, they played in the Citrus Bowl. They just got passed over by the BE and they needed to upgrade their facilities fast. They have done a good job getting all of their needs met with the money that they had to spend.

USF is in a different situation so I am sure the outcome will also be different.

I think the politically correct term for the UCF stadium would be "no thrills".

The Brown Bull makes a good point. It is one thing to leave the Citrus Bowl (and I want to say maybe even forced?), but it is another thing to leave Raymond James Stadium.

Its awesome...and UCF Fans (and many visiting fans) love it!

As you say...its cool on TV...but even better in person!

There were NUMEROUS comments from many USF fans that either attended the USF/UCF football game at UCF in 2008 or one of the 2 basketball games USF had at the new UCF Arena...and many of them came away VERY IMPRESSED in what UCF had built...and some of them wished USF had the same (i.e. stadium, arena, athletic village, etc...).

It fits right in UCF's Athletic Village...as UCF Football players live in the dorms just steps away from the stadium, Football Training Facility, Indoor Practice Facility and outdoor practice fields.

O'Leary has credited the stadium was the major DIFFERENCE in UCF winning many recruiting battles vs BCS programs over the last few years (UCF lost recruiting battles to BCS teams too of course) as it was the "missing link" for UCF's plan...and now even on recruits un-official game day visits...they get to see all of the football facilities, all of the excitement that game day brings to campus...which was always missing when UCF had to play "downtown" and most of those unofficial visits at the Citrus Bowl would normally never see UCF's campus on GameDay.

While stadiums, either on-campus or off-campus can be fancy...players realize that they will spend 340 plus days a year AT that school's campus...and if they don't like it...they will most likely not attend school there...and that's one of the major advantages of UCF moving their games to campus has helped pay off, especially for a non-bcs aq school trying to recruit against BCS aq programs.

(k)Night and Day difference moving football games to campus...(k)Night and Day difference.

Its really amazing to see what UCF has been able to build over the last few years without a dime of BCS $$$.

NOTE: UCF became the first school in over 70 plus years that built a fairly large on-campus football stadium (45,300 seats) AND a 10,000 seat Basketball Arena AT THE SAME TIME...as both facilities opened up just 6 days apart.

PS. Maybe if UCF decided to build just one of those facilities (either new arena or new stadium), they could have spent more $$$$ on just one project but both were needed...and both are beautiful new facilities that most UCF fans couldn't even dream about just 6-7 years ago.

Its referred to as an erector set stadium around here. Its about as basic and cheap as it gets. When it opened it didnt even have water fountains. There were 18 people hospitalized after the first game because they ran out of water. They got into trouble over that and were forced to install them.

On tv, when the fans get into the game, it looks like theres an earthquake. I hope it never happens, but it wouldnt surprise me if the stands collapsed during a game.

There are honestly many high school stadiums in texas that are nicer than ucf's.
Going from a class NFL stadium to anything close to that would suck ass.

Not to squash your pride in your U., but Syracuse did build the Dome in the late 70's, opened the doors in 1980 and it seats more for football and basketball. Does that count?

Yes...if Syracuse would have built 2 separate facilities...but the Dome is one facility serving a multi-purpose (i.e. football, basketball, lacrosse).

You'd have to be pretty stubbornly blind not to even be mildly impressed by how much we've accomplished, with the little money available. I've been to the athletic facilities all over campus, and I am nothing but awestruck everytime. Anyone not wearing green & gold colored glasses shares my opinions, as recruits are happy to voice their praise of our athletic facilities. You may have heard of the last one, Storm Johnson? Transfer from U of Miami? I find it funny that he visited USF first, then went to UCF and immediately committed once he saw the campus.

In defense of some USF Fans...some of their fans ( brave souls) have complimented on what UCF has been able to build over the last few years...all without the benefit of BCS AQ $$$.

In a turn-about, USF is/has also completed some very nice new facilities/upgrades on their campus as well.

It's not crappy. But it's not really good either. But anything is better than the Citrus Bowl.
