LOL. Ok if you really think that UCF is more popular than UM in our state then you are smokin crack. First off this poll doesnt say how the sample was obtained. Since most of UM's support is in a tricounty area of dade-Broward and WPB but that contains a large part of the state population any poll that doesnt take that into account is not very accurate. The same for USF where its support is found in the Tampa Bay west coast counties.

Im not going to worry about a poll such as this.

I cringe every time I hear someone say USF should be replaced by UCF...even in joking fashion. Because it's downright stupid and ridiculous to even consider. Perhaps you don't know your history very well. You do know that USF is 4-0 against UCF including some extreme blowouts to the tune of 64-12. You do know that USF has the second longest bowl streak in the BE behind WVU. You do know that USF has defeated FSU, Miami, Clemso, Auburn, etc. the past few years. It is a slap in the face to USF to even suggest, even jokingly, that USF be replaced by UCF.

They are based out of North Carolina, and national. A Wall Street Journal analysis during the 08 presidential elections confirmed their polling data as among the two most accurate in the country.

So, what is being implied is that the Big East should, in an unprecidented action, kick out a member of its conference for someone who is not a member.

What it boils down to....is no one besides UCF fans cares about this poll. I don't see any UF, FSU or UM fans talking about it.

At least it does give UCF fans one more opportunity to show how obnoxious they are......which they have done nicely.

Technically, Floridians do not like UCF more than Miami or USF, but CFU. They ask about Central Florida University. Sorry, I had to get that in there.

Now as for the poll...some of these numbers don't really surprise me. UCF finished the season ranked and went 11-2, so it is not surprising that fans would jump on the bandwagon. The same goes for Miami, which had a disappointing year and probably had fans jump off the bandwagon.

There are a few things in this poll, however, that strike me as odd. The first is that Florida Atlantic is significantly more popular than Florida International, and almost as popular as USF. Another is that USF did significantly worse among the 18-29 age group than they did among the three older age groups. Furthermore, UCF received 4x as many votes than USF from that age group. From someone that has significant familiarity with the USF and UCF fan bases (my sister went to UCF), that just doesn't add up.

Three things come to mind as possible explanations, while maintaining the assumption that the poll is legitimate. One is that USF has really been pushing the "USF" name, and playing down the "South Florida" name. This could have led to some confusion among more casual fans (non-alumni). A second is that this is first and foremost a political poll, not a sports fan poll. As such, people were polled if they were a voter, and the 18-29 age group account for only 12% of the votes. While this makes sense for a political/voters poll (younger people typically don't vote as often as older people), it might not make sense if the poll were for sports fans. This would explain why certain fan bases that rely heavily on younger fans, such as Miami, received fewer votes than expected. My third thought is that some fan bases might just be more apolitical than other fan bases.

Some of those ideas are a stretch, particularly the last one. However, I think most sensible people would agree that a few of these poll numbers just don't add up. I think to get a truly accurate picture of college fan bases in Florida, you would need to allow for all college football teams. A great deal of the population here is made of transplants, and I think allowing those polled to choose out of state schools would give a more accurate depiction of where loyalties lie. My hunch is that a number of people (particularly older voters) voted for a school that their child or grandchild attends, and that their true college sports loyalty is with an out-of-state program.

LOL of course I can undeostand ucf fans trying to play up this poll the facts are that you have not beaten any of the four bcs schools in your state. So any poll etc that can make you feel you are ahead of those four will be gladly welcome

WHat is also funny is on one hand Bianchi writes an article slamming USF and saying UCF should replace USF in the BE because of this poll. Then he writes an article saying what morons UCF was to let their insurances' lawyers handle the Plancher case and they are not ready to be a big time school.

I do believe the polling results are accurate. Miami has faded in popularity greatly over the last decade. I live in the northern part of Florida and I don't see any Miami sports items around town. I occasionally see USF stickers on cars. I see UCF stickers with about twice as much frequency as USF stuff here. And of course UF and FSU have a large presence here. It does definitely seem to be UF, FSU, UCF, USF, then Miami. That said, Bianchi is an idiot. The best thing for the Big East would be to have both UCF and USF.

I think both UCF and USF will be more popular than Miami very soon if not so already.

and the BullsFan- I know you guys are 4-0, but we did have a few competitive games. We went OT in our last game and lost by 7 in another game. We also went into a bad stretch of our program during some of those games.

LOL here comes the USF/UCF back and forth smack.....so entertaining. For two schools who don't play each other and say they are not a rivalry, you certainly argue more than any two schools in this forum. Love it....wish you guys played annually.
