Tennis Preseason Singles And Doubles Rankings Announced By ITA
Jewel Peterson enters the 2002-03 season ranked No. 4 in singles, No. 2 in doubles.

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Five USC men's and women's tennis players earned singles and doubles rankings according to the preseason edition of the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Senior Jewel Peterson leads the group with a No. 4 preseason singles ranking and a No. 2 doubles ranking with partner Tiffany Brymer. Sophomore Luana Magnani (No. 20) and senior Maureen Diaz (No. 60) are also ranked among the top 100. Loyola and Diaz are ranked No. 28 in doubles.

On the men's side, sophomore Prakash Amritraj (who will rejoin the team in January, 2003) is ranked No. 42 and junior Daniel Langre is No. 96 in the singles poll. Amritraj and Langre earned a No. 25 doubles ranking. The defending national championship Trojans lost three seniors from the 2002 squad.

The first of three national championship tournaments for the 2002-03 take place next month. The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the Rivera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., both take place Oct. 10-13.
