2011-12 Athletic Season
How will the conference do this upcoming year compared to last?
Football was down last season, basketball was atrocious, and baseball was ok. Will the SBC improve, stay the same, or get worse? Thoughts?

It's a rebound year for us. A couple of AQ teams will fall.

Does the new scheduleing thing for Basketball go into effect this year? I know a lot of folks were counting on that to help the RPI of the confrence.

FAU should be able to help in Basketball and Baseball.

I wouldnt count on much from Football other then the stadium adding to the facilities resume of the confrence.

I don't buy it. I've heard FAU has stockpiled some redshirts for football. They'll surprise a few teams, I think.

Well, I don't see ULM helping in basketball for a couple of years. Baseball started out promising but then just collapsed....pitching man, pitching!

Now football I see as an upside this year for the SBC. I think we put 3 teams back into bowls again. Look for some slight improvement in the OOC W/L column.

My predictions for OOC for each team this year:

ASU 2-2 with wins against Memphis and Central Ark
FAU 1-3 with a win at UAB
FIU 2-2 with wins against Duke and Akron
ULL 2-2 with wins against Kent and Nichols
ULM 1-3 with a win against Grambling
MT 1-3 with a win against Memphis
NT 0-4 upset possible at Indiana. Just don't see it though
Troy 1-3 with a win against UAB. Navy possibly but tough
WKU 1-3 witha win against Indiana St

Best chance for a "big name" upset:
1. ULM over Iowa (if we are clicking and they are looking ahead)
2. ASU over Illinois (ASU proved they can play against some Big Ten)
3. Troy over Clemson (Clemson maybe down and if Troy can replace WRs)

I thought we did fairly well in football with 3 teams bowling and baseball was fantastic this year! I agree basketball was pathetic.

How can you better your basketball? Most. Non-AQ leagues strive for at least 2 NCAA bids a year. That's were the money is.

Something about a minimum RPI schedule or something like that.

I know there are lots of better basketball minds that could explain the initiative better then me.

I still hate the fact that in RPI, a team can WIN its game and drop in the ratings. I will never get used to that or like it.

I think they may have been talking about football OOC regular season and no "big" wins vs. Money Conference teams last season

Oh okay. Well in that case I would agree.

Oh okay. Well in that case I would agree.

USA basketball added a group of guards that should help us bounce back record-wise when paired SBC Freshman of the Year Augustine Rubit on the inside.
In baseball, although one of the better coaches in NCAA history retired from USA after the season, we expect significant improvement. Coach Kitrell's age had been used against him in recruiting and the talent level wasn't what we had usually put on the field. New coach Mark Calvi (South Carolina's pitching coach when they won the national title two years ago) has been the coach-in-waiting this past season. He had a really good recruiting class and has added two great assistant coaches.
In football, you guys just do the best you can until we arrive to help in 2013.
