It's a holiday in my family. Krispy Kreme freebies! (They're not my favorite but to me donuts are like pizza: Even when bad they're still pretty good.)

Brings me to a question, Krispy Kreme? Or Dunkin Donuts?

Well I am no Yankee but I have to say that Krispy Kremes glazed doughnuts are awesome, especially when hot and fresh. That said, I like more of the flavored ones at DD.

I know they do. There was a big push by KK to take over the market, and plenty of grocery stores, from the deep south (Virginia) to the Southwest (Ariz). So, I've sampled plenty of KK.

And I've had better donuts at many other places.

Speaking of the deep south, there is a donut shop in Jackson, MS that bears my surname. Hope to visit there sometime.

Well, if I have to choose between DD and KK, I'll choose KK. Frankly, it's not even close. Maybe they don't do it right here in SoCal. If we're restricting to chains, KK is the best I can find. There are a handful of small shops that I like better than any of the chains. If you get to Portland, OR make sure you check out Voodoo Donuts (and be careful not to trip over the homeless emo kids hanging around outside). Maple frosting and bacon - that's heaven.
