Exclamation Big East Conference---Looking Ahead
If the Big East Conference is going to split in the near future. Why not make sports history and become the First 16 Team All-Sport Conference?
Eastern Div:
1. Uconn
2. Syracuse
3. Rutgers
4. Temple
5. UCF
6. USF
7. ECU
8. Umass, Notre Dame or BC? I don't believe BC or Notre Dame would join. But it sure would be nice if one of them would. Obviously I'm having a hard time picking an 8th team for the Eastern Div. in this example.

Western Div:
1. TCU
2. Houston
3. SMU
4. Cincinnati
5. Louisville
6. Memphis
7. Pitt. U.
8. W. Virginia
What kind of TV contract could this conference obtain on the open market from the TV networks? This would also give the Big East some long term stability. Tks, MrP3242

RE: Big East Conference---Looking Ahead
WAC did it already. As for this lineup:
Quote:Eastern Div:
1. Uconn
2. Syracuse
3. Rutgers
4. Temple
5. UCF
6. USF
7. ECU
8. Umass

Western Div:
1. TCU
2. Houston
3. SMU
4. Cincinnati
5. Louisville
6. Memphis
7. Pitt. U.
8. W. Virginia

That's not a bad lineup but the divisions are off I'd swap the two Florida schools for Pitt and WVU. And we'll assume UMass not BC or ND obviously.

The WAC was a 16 team all sports conference. And if you want to go back a few generations, the Southern Conference fielded as many as 23 members before the SEC schools left.

The Southern Conference had a lot of members when the ACC schools left too...

In all, 24 current I-A schools played in the SoCon at some point, including WVU.

So Calhounā€™s vision of the Big East is not far off if they continue to expand.

If there's a split and the BE's TV money deal is bigger than the ACC's deal you better believe BC is on the table. The only question is if the BE wants to deal with BC or not. Even at $11 BC is on the table- DOn't let the BC fans fool you-- They rather play UCONN, SYR, Rutgers, Pitt and even Temple- before they play Clemson and Ga. Tech. Like people in Boston even know what state Clemson is in. They probably don't even know what state Ga. Tech is in.

That or keep one FL and one TX school in each division, for recruiting and exposure purposes.

If our TV money ends up being comparable to the ACC's, the entire ACC - outside Tobacco Road - is on the table...

Papa Joe's: Idea of a big eastern football conference was a great idea. His greed ruined the whole chance of it ever happening. I know other conferences have tried 16 teams and failed, but in the new era of of bigger conferences, bigger TV deals, CCG's etc: could it work. It sure would give the networks plenty of inventory to work with during FB and BB season. The Big East has to do something different to generate more revenue. I just can't figure out what that move or configuration should be to maximize revenue for the conference. MrP3242

This is why we have an expansion board.

Since it's off-season, we've decided to go easy on this. However, if the board starts filling up with far-flung realignment scenarios (such as the one in this thread), that will change.

Where did the link go from the Big East page?

Strange how the big east board page has a POLITICS link but not an EXPANSION Board link now.

as long as we grow, get more tv money, and remain viable and relevent nationally I don't give a rip what we do, who we add, etc.

So much incorrect about this statement. First of all, BC's decision to go to the ACC was more than just $$'s. BC also wanted an all-sports conference. The minutes of the BE meetings back in 2003 make this very clear. Besides, if the BE is able to pull off a gigantic deal in late 2012 that exceeds the ACC's deal (something that is completely uncertain at this point), BC and the rest of the ACC will just wait until their deal comes up for renewal a few years later where the deals will reset once again.

Finally, the suggestion that BC would rather play Temple, Rutgers, or Uconn instead of Florida State, Clemson, or Miami is absurd. I would ask the Rutgers or Uconn fans on this board: would you rather play BC or Florida State, Miami, or Clemson? Enough said. (Yes Frogman, BC fans know what state Clemson and Ga. Tech are in..LOL)

Well, I guess I have fallen victim to the grammar police. Grammar wise, each school is in a separate state - not multiple states. I suppose I should have said: "what state each is in.". My bad. Thanks for nitpicking. I can assure you when I go to BC games at each location, I know which state to fly into. LOL
