10/18 with 2 federated football only members to get to 12.

Of course, full membership is what we would all hope for and work towards, but we would be able to bus to most, if not all, conference opponents in the CAA, drastically cutting our travel costs from CUSA.

Just for the heck of it, here is the market maps. The green shade is the Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville market. Greenville is located in Pitt County.

I am not sure the CAA is an option for ECU.....The CAA has already had to deal with ECU leaving once and they were not real happy how things went down so we may have burned that bridge. Also the CAA membership is actually quite different now than it was when we were a member. It is much more spread out and many of the schools are too far away for a bus ride.

So according to this article a new member needs 11 yes votes for approval. I present Villanova:
8 catholic yes votes(including themselves) plus
UConn, Syracuse and???? USF? Lville? Doesnt sound like its quite over yet.

Does this mean UCF can claim Titusville's TV demo? Lakeland, too?

they would need their vote, the other 7 Catholic school votes, then 4 football votes. its 12 of 16 (75%).

I seriously hope UCONN does not vote for Nova. They are not ready. There is no way any BE program should play in any 18k stadium. That would be an insult to rest of the BE schools.

I really hope BE considers ECU. ECU fans been dying to get into the BE for years. I believe they are ready. If they can deliver #25 TV market, I seriously hope BE would consider them. I also believe they could be the best FB team out of NC if got that BCS label.

I hope its UCF, ECU, +1. I personally believe UCF and ECU are no brainers. We will help strengthen the FB and Baseball product and we've developed quite the rivalry in all our sports the last few years.

If you have as many people watching your team there as we do Raleigh, sure. 03-wink

That's actually a good point. The ECU and UCF rivalry has emerged over the last few years in all of our sports. By adding both ECU and UCF you bring another rivalry into the conference.

I don't think the Catholic schools get to vote in the Nova upgrade since its a football matter.

I didnt think so either, but the article said everyone has a vote(said 11 needed more once tcu is onboard) Of course it wouldnt shock me if the author didnt have his facts right.

Agreed. I really think ECU & UCF gives you a way better conference than BYU, Army or Navy long term (and I mean like 5 years down the road)

Navy and Army will never compete for a NC due to the nature of their schools. BYU is great but how many BigEast fans are going to hop in a car for a game there.

Again...it was not someone from ECU claiming anything. Just go back and read the article again. And really it does not matter anyway, like the article said, it is not just about the market you are in it is what you can deliver out of that market. The bottom line is I am sure the Big East has already done the research on the TV market issue and has a good idea of what each school currently delivers and what they will probably deliver if added to the Big East.

DMB,

You know every was just messing with you guys, right? 03-wink

ECU has a strong pull throughout the Carolina region. You prove that every year. Nothing but respect.

But I also think UCF has a strong pull throughout Tampa and more so Miami region. So the idea that "Houston" is a way better pick than UCF or ECU because it's #10 instead of #18 is pretty false IMO. You really can't look at market alone.

ECU and UCF (and Houston too) pump out a lot of Alumni each year. Thats really going to pay off.

I think it's pretty clear why ECU has a legit claim to share the Raleigh market.

No problems here...I just knew those comments would come up when I read the article and he mentioned ECU being in the 25th market...It is all good, who knows what the heck will happen. I think the Big East will have a very hard time getting a consensus from its members on expansion candidates....When they finally get down to taking a vote I am sure it will get real interesting. It seems like the Basketball schools are against adding anymore for basketball and it sounds like the football schools would like to go to 12......I wonder which side will win out????

The good thing about the Raleigh market is we get the TV sets of the Pirate fans and we also get the TV sets of people who hate ECU and want to see us lose.....04-cheers

I think this is just CBS and ESPN setting up and building up ECU for spot number 10 in the Big East. Now the very interesting thing is they are the Big East's current tv partners so there might be something to this.

Interesting.
-They list our market as Raleigh/Durham (#25)
-We are expanding our stadium to 60,000 in 2016

"East Carolina, whose TV market (ranked No. 25) is surprisingly close to UCF's No. 19 Orlando TV market, has led C-USA in attendance the past three seasons and had the second-highest non-AQ home attendance average last season (49,665).

East Carolina athletic director Terry Holland would not specifically address the Pirates' interest in the Big East, but did address with CBSSports.com whether ECU could compete in any conference. Houston AD Mack Rhoades and UCF AD Keith Tribble declined comment for this story.

"I believe that East Carolina's ability to compete with most of the institutions in the conferences with automatic qualification has been proven on the field, in the stands and by the marketplace," Holland said.

Since 2005, the Pirates have seven wins against AQ BCS conferences; the second most of the Big East candidates behind Navy's 14-17 record vs. AQ BCS teams.

Holland also referenced the 2009 Liberty Bowl between East Carolina and Arkansas, which drew a 10.3 rating (2.4 million households) on ESPN in the combined markets of Greenville, Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte, N.C., compared to the 2008 Holiday Bowl between TCU and Boise State, which drew a 5.1 rating (2.4 million households) in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Holland added the Pirates' attendance numbers -- they would have ranked fourth last year in the Big East in attendance (49,665) -- will increase when ECU's stadium expands to 60,000 in 2016"

Holland is using this example, which is solid statistics, that ECU's market stretches across the state and is not contained within eastern NC. Thus legitimately claiming the number 25 market in the nation. We have always known that our market ventures well beyond Greenville, into west NC, south to SC and north to the VA/Tidewater area. Great job by Terry Holland in making this point.

I don't think the Catholic schools get to vote in the Nova upgrade since its a football matter.

I think they do IF 6 of the 8 football schools recommend them for what would then be a "formality" vote.

Since Nova didn't get 6 fb votes, there is no recommendation to forward to the rest of the league.

I think the fb schools are having a hard time getting 6 of them to agree on any candidate at this point in time and/or know they don't have 12 total votes to invite someone.

Cheers,
Neil
