How It Happened
Ruffin took home the Field Performer of the Meet award after earning 18 points for the Black & Gold. He won the shot put with a record-breaking toss of 58' 5 ¼". She followed that up with a heave of 61' 10 ½" in the weight throw, good for second place and eight more points.
Coles was right behind his classmate in the shot put with a toss of 54' 1" and finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 50'11".
Waller set a school record and earned a third-place finish in the heptathlon with point total of 4812. He also scored in the high jump, finishing seventh by clearing 6' 2 ¼".
Junior George Moore had a great performance in the 500-meter, coming in second by just .01 seconds with a time of 1:04.12.
Moore teamed up with Tehquin Warrick, Andrew Shipp and Jacob Garcia for a third-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:20.78.
Sophomore Kyle Martin medaled in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.16, good for third place. He tied the school record earlier in the day during the prelims with a time of 8.15.
Warrick also scored in the 200m with a time of 22.53 (7th) and 400m with a time fo 50.42 (5th).
Shipp also scored in the triple jump (45' – 5th) and long jump (21' 9 ¾" – 8th).
Sophomore Desmond Smallwood scored in both the 60m with a time of 7.07 (6th) and 200m with a time of 22.75 (8th).

PORTER, RAMS SET ATLANTIC 10 HISTORY EN ROUTE TO FOURTH-PLACE FINISH
Meet: Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

The Short Story: Juniors Kiara Porter and Alexis Stroman made Atlantic 10 history with record breaking times to lead the VCU women's track & field team to a fourth-place overall finish at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Porter won the 60m, 200m and 400m at the meet, including a school record and A-10 record time in the 60. Stroman blistered the track en route to a win and meet record in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Jalessa Williams scored the most points of any field athlete at the meet with a victory in the shot put and second-place finish in the weight throw.
