Why EMU is still in the MAC
Say what you will about 'em in the "revenue" sports, but the Boys from Ypsi usually do the MAC proud on the ol' ball diamond.

EMU just this afternoon finished a sweep at highly regarded Louisville. This year the Hurons have also won at ranked Clemson, won 2 of 3 at Kansas, won a slugfest at Michigan State and won 2 of 3 against Michigan.

And still....no body cares, not even EMU students.

If baseball and non-revenue sports are EMU's focus, they should go to the Horizon League. It wouldn't affect the sports they care about, and it takes the focus off of the sports they don't.

Does the Horizon League have soccer?

Yes, but not nearly as good as the MAC. And that's saying something.

The university has committed the money to play at the FBS level.

EMU also has some donors with deep pockets willing to buy thousands of tickets every season. I think that's worth something.

I happen to be quite proud of our 11 game win streak for baseball. I was also able to catch one of the wins over U of M. So nice to see right after we beat them in the WNIT as well!

My roommates and several other close friends follow EMU athletics quite extensively. You would be surprised about the growing interest for our athletics programs. Just because students don't post on here does not mean they are not interested...

You might be the only group of students that care. When you can count students at a game on 2 hands, its pretty sad.

RE: Why EMU is still in the MAC
I guess if we're going to start kicking out teams we'd have to figure out which sport and how many teams have to go. You'd probably end up with several football teams and several basketball teams remaining, and they wouldn't be the same schools.

RE: Why EMU is still in the MAC
Right now, the MAC is struggling to keep some men's sports in order to keep their AQ standing in them(Soccer, Track, and Tennis I believe). If you have less than six teams in a sport within the conference, then the MAC will lose that AQ bid. Without that AQ bid, Akron may have not gotten into the NCAA Soccer Championships prior to 2009 and 2010 and the MAC Track schools would have not been invited to the Track regionals.

We are six years removed from having Dave Diles as our AD. He ran the whole athletic program into the ground during his tenure and it's taking longer to rebuild.

We also have a lot of UM wait-listers and wannabees that attend EMU who don't care.

And is there any indication that makes you think it is going to change? EMU has no chance, zero, none of ever getting above what they are now. I am sorry, but if FBS football is not EMU's focus then why are they spending money on it? We are all in the MAC because we want to be at the top level for football. In my time following the MAC I have never seen an EMU home game that had more than 5,000 fans. It is not like they are just in a slump, NIU went through a slump in the 90's, but was able to build a respectable program. WMU and CMU have been in slumps. EMU isn't even in a slump, it is in the grande canyon of slumps. I do feel sorry for the few EMU fans, but the key word and problem is few.

Have to ask this question, EMU is in the cellar, why did STO schedule them on 3 out of the 6 games this season?

They are predicting that EMU will go undefeated and sellout ever home game. Unfortunately STO doesn't research the MAC very well.

Uh, hello? That is last year's press release. Note the date and the interview with the "new" coaches at Akron, CMU and Buffalo.
