Agree; it is the decline of the 'Age of America' not the death of America that we are facing and that is indeed sad. Just as history witnessed the decline of the Roman influence, the British influence, the French influence, the Soviet influence, etc., we are now facing the prospect of the U.S. no longer being the 500 pound gorilla on the world scene. The next 500 pound Gorilla will most likely be China and that is not necessarily a good thing for the world, IMHO.

You guys are just trying to bait me; aren't you? All right, I'll bite.

China, for all its issues, is a partner of ours. They are an ever strengthening power and world player, however, they have issues we can never dream of. For example, in the past 20 years they have moved 400 million people out of poverty and into a Chinese type of middle class. Guess what? They've got another 400 million people they need to move out. In order to do that I am sure they are desperate for stability and maintanence of the status quo.

Also, as most of you know, we buy a huge amount of goods produced by the Chinese (and have lost many manufactoring jobs here at home because of their low labor costs). However, they turn around and plow those dollars we send them right back into the U.S. Treasury by way of T-Bills, Bonds and Notes. Why's this important? because it allows the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low and inflation in check. Not sure how many of you were around in the mid to late 70's when interest rates climbed to over 20% and we didn't know how to get inflation under control, but it was a very scary time. I remember milk jumping from $.85 a gallon to over $2.00 in about six months...bread seemed to double in price and gasoline went from under .50 to over a dollar in that same period. You want to talk about scary....let inflation rear its head.

All that said, we have our issues with China but for the most part they are a relative stable partner of ours. What should we expect when dirt poor countries get their act together (Brazil comes to mind here) and start building strong economies and pulling their people out of poverty? When the hungry start getting fed. Should we be afraid or should we embrace the new world. Live in fear if you will; I'll chose to embrace the future.

It's not a matter of "choosing" to "be afraid", but of simply acknowledging that America has -- consciously or not -- squandered much of its power to influence world events.

1. As a young lad, I remember the small banners that were displayed in front windows with a star denoting each family member in the military during WWII.

2. As a young lad, I remember when service men who were thumbing a ride were quickly given a lift and that many were even invited into the homes of strangers for a hot meal.

3. As a young man, I remember the flag draped coffins of friends and still get riled up with someone burns or desecrates our flag in the name of "freedom of speech".

4. I wish that the folks that constantly badmouth our country and blame it for all their problems could be made to serve 2 years in a Peace Corps in North Korean, China, Cuba, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, etc. Maybe those that survived would appreciate the country that we live in is free because of the sacrifices of others.

5. I don't beleive in hypen-Americans. To me there are no African-Americans, Latin-Americans, etc. If your were born in the USA, you are an AMERICAN........period.

6. Those who constantly find things to ***** about can thank folks like the Navy SEALS that did an outstanding job in whacking a very evil guy and for our people in uniform that make it possible for them to whine and complain without being imprisioned, shot or hanged for their beliefs.

FINALLY, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE CODE NAME GERONIMO BEING USED, JUST SUCK IT UP AND QUIT BEING A CRY BABY.

(Sorry for the rant, but this PC stuff among other things gets me riled up)

Can add people who don't stop what they are doing and/or uncover (remove their hat) when the National Anthem is played?

Like Russia 'when'? They've got thousands of years of history and numerous regime changes. Which era do you want me to focus on?

"economy never get better" ... "At least 8 years before it gets better"
Never != 8 years. If it did, I could do the following -
Sleep with Carrie Underwood
[Image: carrie-underwood.jpg]
Win the Superbowl
[Image: AP_Superbowl_07feb10_230.jpg]

As for the new jobs, you should see them all around you as a fan of ULM, FSU, and "Texas" (per your name).
Per the a 2010 Houston Chronicle Article -
Texas created 182,100 new jobs in 2010
Louisiana- 27,100
Florida- 28,100

And printing money non-stop while artificially keeping interest rates low is better?

You are confused as to what the Tea Party is about. Spend less money and return the federal government to constitutional levels. Also, the Democrapublicans, or Republicrats (however you like to call them since they're both for the same thing, larger govt. and more spending, just on their pet projects and not the others') aren't doing all that much to "revive" America.

The Tea Party has never held office, has never taken out a loan for the country, and has never declared war on a foreign power. The Tea Party is a reactionary group protesting our rising debt. Period. Do they have wackos? Yep. Are they a negative force? Not really. Are they the "death of America?" nope.

That is a contradictory statement. Printing money is an inflationary practice; what I think you mean is selling more debt to raise revenue for the government to spend. Again, as long as there are buyers of our 'paper' inflation will remain in check; if we need to raise the interest rates on this paper to attract buyers...then we'd be in trouble. Fortunately there is enough worldwide demand for U.S. Treasuries to raise the money we need while simultaneously keeping interest rates low (inflation is the main, underlying variable in any interest rate).

IMO, the Federal government has been out of control for some time now. It started during WWII. we NEEDED the Fed to have enough power to defeat the Nazis and Japs. Once we wooped the bad guys the government never returned to norm. Since the 1940s the government has gotten bigger and bigger every year. Democrats AND Republicans are to blame, neither wants to give up any bit of power once they are in office. Both also spend more money than they should. The Dems spend much more, but the Republicans aren't penny pinchers by any means...they just spend the money on defense rather than social projects.

Again, with such innocent and simplistic general statements...

The big bad government got bigger EVERY year since the 1940's. Ummm...care to explain?

Let us all also get something clear. This isn't a problem with the Republicans and the Democrats. This is a problem with the ENTIRE political system in this country. Capitalism sure looks great when things are going well (aka No one has been caught yet). You simply cannot have a system based on moral values as corruption and greed is innate in every politician of the same game.

Plain and simple, not a single one of us on here uses their political power correctly. You think you do but you get all of your information from privately owned media sources who's base financial support come from biased owners and party managers. No matter what television news channel you turn on you are receiving biased information.

Politicians don't give a damn about any of you. The only people they care about are the ones writing the checks to their campaigns. Why do you think they never fulfill their promises to the lower and middle classes. Then once they get into office it is all about collecting that money under the table, and protecting the oil companies, insurance companies, etc...

That is a contradictory statement.

Logic says you are correct, but the Fed is political, not logical. "Artificially" was the key word. If you are selling off stock in the nation, while not lowering the physical money supply, you are "printing money". This is inflation, plain and simple.

However, the first person to get their hands on this money (governments) don't see the effects. And if they just sit on their investment you'll never see any "new money" come into the system, so no one ever will. But as soon as they look for a return on their investment, the govt. has to put physical money into the system to pay them off. This makes your dollar buy less, because there are more dollars out there.

Since your dollar's buying power is basically based on faith in the US govt. as that faith lowers, your dollar lessens. The people are going to be hit two fold when it hits the fan. Faith in the US will be lower, making your dollar worth less, and there will be more dollars out there, making your dollar worth less (hopefully not worthless).

And YES, this is what the Tea "Party" is about. The republicans who call themselves Tea Party members are still just politicians. The PEOPLE want less government spending. These politicians begin throwing in social issues that aren't their constituents' focus right now. Just get the money stuff hammered out.

politics truly brings out the idiocy in full force with some folks.

unfortunately the commonwealth of ky elected the looniest tea-bagger of the bunch in rand paul....to make matters worse he's from b.g.

although i agree that p.c. can be too much at times i always try to see someone's point.

to say that the native american indians weren't treated like mierda is sticking your head in the sand.

geronimo was a hero to many. i see how he was a pain in the butt to the us military. but if you were him you would have been bringing the fight just like he did unless you're a sheep.

i get how that was offensive. why wasn't osama's code name george washington??? he was a terrorist in the eyes of the british. short sighted thinking by i'm sure a very white officer or intelligence person.

it's not enough to cause massive protests but i do get how it was offensive. if you can't see that then you're thick.

paul of troy....you're awful young to be as cynical as me.
