Sadly, I disagree. I will refrain from posting my specific thoughts (rationally or otherwise) for fear of elevated warning levels, and the potential ban hammer, but this thread really makes me sad for this site. I always thought more highly of it for its professionalism and a bit of a sense of self accountability from those who run the site.

Have I expected too much?

You should consider my options on this side of the table, and realize I was actually quite nice. This a person who has been banned -- repeatedly -- and keeps coming back to stir the pot. We had somebody who was like that but with no tact at all, and would trash the board all day long on the Western Michigan board. I ended up having to call Western Michigan's ResNet network administrators, and have them ban the guy since he just wouldn't listen. That comes with the bonus of him being subject to banishment from ResNet, formal discipline from the University, and jeopardy of any scholarships he might hold. That's what I *have* to do when trouble makers simply refuse to go away and leave me no further options.

If I were an *******, I would have called the City myself, which would have definitely gotten him fired. Posting his info is a way of saying: "The game is over. You're not cute. You're not funny. Accessing this site is a privilege, not a right. One you have abused wantonly time and again. You're not anonymous. I know exactly who you are, and if you don't believe me, I'll prove it now." Nine times out of ten, this makes them go away and either not come back, or eventually come back but SERIOUSLY tone things down. Even the infamous Winged Eagle is still here posting under other names, but you'll notice he's not even 1/100th of the PITA he was originally, because he got the message when I posted his info and I didn't have to take it any further.

I am one of the most laid back and forgiving board owners and operators you will ever find. But if you are hell bent on destroying the user experience here, you should be prepared because I WILL stop you ... even if I have to interject myself very personally into your real life to do so.

GTS, I'll PM you regarding my thoughts on this whole mess when I get a chance... I have no interest in calling out individuals in public.

Be sure to include your alternatives for people who refuse to listen, refuse to accept being banned, stay here only to deliberately deteriorate the experience of others, to the point of threatening bogus legal action against me for not letting them readily have their destruction party.

You got ideas for alternatives I'd looooooooove to have them, but this is the only way to get through to some people.

It was obvious from the beginning this GTF guy was a USM fan posing as a Tulane fan. I repeatedly called him out for it. He would go mental on me when I did. Well, the guy is a nut case. I agree with GTS, what else could he do? He had been banned before and was now throwing out the threat of some b.s. lawsuit.
