I and went to the Mac? I know theyd join the other 3 Michigans, but maybe it would expose the Mac more? Idk...I'm just thinking out loud here....

That's a no-go. Grand Valley likes their status as one of the largest community colleges DII schools in the nation. They love being the big fish in the small pond. Their delusional students love to tell MAC fans how they would beat us. Truth is, of course, that they would get crushed. GV has no desire to move their programs anywhere. They love their bloated sense of over-importance too much.

You should just hate on Temple. Everyone in NY thinks Philly sucks anyways.

I agree, but that is one game all season.. Then what do you do for the rest of year? I know we don't have rivals and I don't expect any team to consider us a rival.

Bullboy, I know you think that 1 game a year isn't enough to spark a rivalry, but then how do rivalries form in the NFL?

I don't get up for playing EMU in football either...but its fun to see how many points we can score.

We aren't the NFL.. Were are a college.. Look at Kent and Akron.. Doesn't matter if it is football, basketball, women's soccer or softball.. They get up more for those games because of their rivalry.

1) Most NFL Rivals are divisional hence they play twice a year
2) Comparing a professional league to college is a non starter..

twice a year isnt much anyways. And the comparison works if your from the south or the midwest...but I mean...do the Bills have a rival? No. There's really no sports rivalry in Buffalo, New York...

They get more for those games because they're 16 miles apart and so there's no travel burden for visiting fans.

For UB to gain a true rivalry, you need to pick someone to hate and then start hating them. Simple as that.

But that only works if they hate us back...

RE: Buffalo Rivalries in the MAC?
It could start if Syracuse would ball up and go in on a 1-for-1 series with us like other Big East schools, but obviously they view it as a no-gain situation to get a continuous alternating site series with us in football. Basketball? HAH, they'd never play us, or anybody for that matter, on the road.

There are very few rivalries that don't spark from geographic locations. Temple and UMass has the Chaney thing, Miami-Ohio have the Bricks thing that started 100+ years ago. It seems like everything else is for regional or statewide bragging rights. Canisius gets up for the UB bball game, but even Reggie said a couple years ago that UB doesn't go into the game extra motivated or anything like that.

Not really what I was implying, but you can certainly view it that way. If Syracuse wins, it's "Oh boy, we beat the crappy state school," if they lose then all hell breaks loose. They already have competitive rivalries, though more-so in bball than football, so they see no benefit in starting one with Buffalo.

Hey lets be fair. Not just the entire state of NY as the Western half of PA, most of NJ, Washington DC, and the KSUMGF at the very least all despise the city of Philly (I have a feeling that Virginia and Maryland probably don't like them either). Also hate their airport and never take a band trip to Philly. REALLY BAD THINGS HAPPEN! There is no escape from 5th and Chestnut...

You've never heard of 'Squish the Fish', the Bills-Dolphins rivalry? It goes back to the AFL days. I went to one Dolphins game at WRS, and I've never seen more yellow security coats rushing around breaking up fights than any other sporting event I've attended:

Bill-Dolphins Rivalry

I've loved my Philly visits. One of the best downtown residential and night-life markets in the US. It's the sports teams I hate, esp. being a Braves fan. I don't think I could move my family to live there for just that reason..the same reason I couldn't move us to Boston. I didn't realize how annoying the Boston/NE pro sports market was until I stayed in RI for my honeymoon.

And the thing about Syracuse is, we've rarely played them. We played at the end of the 1800's, then zero times during the 20th century. Even when we were both private schools we had our small-college division rivals (Hobart, Alfred, U of Rochester, pre-1960) and they had their major-college division rivals (Colgate and Cornell, both historically fierce SU rivalries back in the day). The disinterest in playing the other was mutual even when we jumped to major-college in the '60's.

RE: Buffalo Rivalries in the MAC?
Well the band trip was the band trip from hell. To put it into perspective the bus companies screwed up sop badly that we sued them out of existence (literally) and the band was stuck on the corner of 5th and Chestnut in downtown Philly which apparently is not a safe place to be late at night. Thankfully a local church took us in around 4am.

If you think 5th and Chestnut is bad, I don't think you would ever be able to live in a city...It is in one of the higher end and historical areas of Philadelphia...

Just curious, but does anyone on this board consider Buffalo to be a rivalry in any sport?
