MKitten, don't waste your time with someone that comes in and starts an argument, then says let's not argue. Today has simply been too good a day.

Damn, don't spoil the fun. Doesn't matter at the moment. It's certainly a start.

Nah, it all depends on who started the thread. If you're part of the clique you could post about a dog taking a dump in overton park and it would stay up for a week. If not, you get the jammamy treatment--moved thread. Wonder no longer...you have seen the light.

A lot of stories I've seen talk about Manu Ginobili being on the bench/injured like thats the reason they lost. Well, what about Rudy Gay being out for the season?
Always someone trying to justify a loss.

Yeah, but what sucks is that Ginobili will probably play the rest of the series.

Maybe he'll bump into Gasol and fall like a heap of potatoes after getting a little bruise on his thigh again.
Bring him on.

RE: MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES UPSET THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS
This message board is a strange place and I really don't understand the way "business" is run. There's very vague rules about what sticks on the main forum. It seems that things will stick on there until someone gets a little boisterous with their keyboard and makes a scene. There are many people that spend hours of their time on this board. Basically every public issue is discussed somewhere on this board. Some things stick on the main board and some things get moved.
Also, there's some strange opinions that skew reality. The Memphis Grizzlies hatred is the main one for me. If you are a Memphian, I really don't understand how you can hate this team. They have been tremendous for this city. They are the biggest element that give Memphis a national relevance in the sports world. The Thunder and Trailblazers have somehow made Oklahoma City and Portland cool. And the Grizzlies were the lead story on Sportscenter last night. This is tremendous for Memphis, and Saturday and Monday should be two of the most absurd nights of the year in the FEF and on Beale. This will bring in revenue for the city and something that we (as a community) can embrace and rally around. Anyone who chooses not to realize this takes the "Memphis Tiger inferiority complex" to an entirely different level.

Congrats to the Grizz! This is awesome. All those years of being swept by San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix and etc. it is really nice to finally get a playoff win. Go Grizzlies!
I don't know but Shane Battier just looks like he belongs in a Grizzlies uniform. Welcome back again Shane! We love you here at Memphis!

They would be quite willing to see scarce resources and support shifted toward them and away from our school's athletic program.
That is a total lie. The Grizzlies begged the University to share the FedExForum with them. The two have a well established PARTNERSHIP and both want to see the other succeed.
I respectfully disagree. The Griz is not a charitable organization and the owner has already clearly demonstrated the importance of profit by moving the team from Vancouver. They, like any other business, enter into agreements which enhance their financial position and once an agreement proves disadvantages, it will be dropped as soon as feasible.
Regardless, our time would be better spent IMO rejoicing over a victory than bickering over the profit motives of a business and placement of threads on a Tiger message board.
Actually, he doesn't make any money off the Grizzlies. He actually pours more money into the team and the community than he makes off the team. In reality, most owners do not make money off their teams. It is about posterity. About owning a sports franchise. And if you think we employees make a lot then think again. You don't work in sports for the money.
I had hoped to let this rest, but I feel compiled to respond.
1. The Griz are not a non-profit. Profit making entities want to make a profit. IMO, this does not lessen the value of the Griz to the City of Memphis.
2. According to Forbes, about 43% of NBA teams reported operating income (earnings before interest and taxes) last year. Clearly, these owners do not view their franchises as mere diversions.
3. Franchises tend to appreciate in value and yield a tidy sum upon sale. For example, the Griz were valued at $160M in 2001 and now are valued at $266M (a 66% increase) despite a recent vicious recession.
Hensley or his heirs can look forward to a nice payback.
I cheer for the Griz and would attend a playoff game if I lived in Memphis. However, there should be no illusions that the Griz are an altruistic organization.

I had heard that they were getting close to the breakeven point - I hope that they will continue to increase their revenues. The the impending lockout, any of the franchises who are operating at a loss will be in danger.
