UNT Hoops picks up 4-star transfer
This year's highly rated UNT hoops class just got even better. Oklahoma State x-fer (Rivals 4-star) Roger Franklin will be joining the Mean Green. Another high profile transfer, 5-star Tony Mitchell of Missouri, previously signed. These two and UNT's #31 rated recruit class bode well for the future of Mean Green basketball.04-bow

Roger Franklin has signed with UNT after a visit this weekend. He spent the first two years of his career at Oklahoma State.

UNT's incoming class that also includes Tony Mitchell and Jordan Williams just got even better.

Check back for more later.

Thoughts on Franklin joining the Mean Green

UNT reeled in another big-time recruit tonight in Roger Franklin, the former Duncanville standout who left Oklahoma State to be closer to his ailing father.

UNT Bowler asked when Franklin will be eligible. That depends on the NCAA. Franklin will ask for a waiver that would make him eligible next year. If that falls through he will be eligible the year after.

Franklin is a 6-5 forward who could play a number of spots in the Sun Belt.

And from what I have been told, he could be that leadership guy along the lines of Eric Tramiel who UNT missed last season.

Franklin is also a great athlete who will add to what Johnny Jones is building at UNT. And for all those complaining about UNT not being a great defensive team or a great rebounding team, he ought to help with that too.

Everything I have been told about Franklin had me believing he is an impressive player and guy. He certainly sounds the part when you talk to him.

UNT lost a lot after last year, but what it has coming in is scary. Franklin was the 98th-rated player in his class, Tony Mitchell was 12th in his class and UNT has four guys rated in top 30 in the state in the Class of 2011 coming in.

If those guys come together like they should, especially with a leader like Franklin, UNT could have a scary team down the line.

It's not like we didn't already know this, but Johnny Jones really has it rolling at UNT.

Very exciting pickup, with a very good case (especially relative to Baylor's J'mison Morgan, who got a hardship waiver last year) to play this fall.

Franklin is somewhat similar to Pettigrew or Kerusch from Western... A hybrid 3/4, large guard's body with the rebounding prowess and post defense of a forward. Not as good a 3 point shooter as Kerusch (but luckily Franklin seems to know it), but perhaps better suited as a back-to-the-basket player.

If he gets his waiver... He'll be a powerful addition to the 2011-12 lineup. Failing that... He's a great influence on the incoming freshmen during his redshirt year.
