My gosh, you mentioned microbrews and I had totally forgotten about Maumee Bay Brewing Company (the one mentioned above in Oliver house. It's only about 4 blocks or so from the Park Inn. I've eaten there a couple times and liked it, and they make some good beers. Good atmosphere.

I pinned this. I'll change the title after it's been up a few days for our guest.

RE: Visiting UNH Fan Questions
Why not start with the must see in Toledo - Tony Packo's. Head from there to the Docks - should still be some boats cruising the river - then cross the river to go downtown to any of the options mentioned above. I think Oliver House and the micro brewery are good choices. Isn't the Dirty Bird still open? That place would seem to be perfect for the 20 something crowd. I was there after one of the Mud Hen playoff games about 4 years ago and you could barely get in. Do that on Friday - and stay downtown - then check out and head closer to campus for Saturday activities.

My thoughts - but I haven't lived in Toledo for over 15 years.

I always hit Webber's and Packo's when I comeback to Toledo.

Isn't the game Thursday night (September 1st)?

That would be a damper on my proposed itinerary. I guess I didn't even bother to think the game was anything other than a Saturday - forgetting it is Labor Day weekend...

We are game for trying any type of food. It looks like Tony Packo's and the Beirut are favorites as they were mentioned by multiple people. Also the Docks on the East side looked interesting; however, are they still open? I came across an article about them being sold??

As for nightlife, I think we are going to end up staying right downtown (Crown Plaza or Park Inn), so information on any bars/pubs/micro breweries within walking distance of those hotels would be super. Slightly interested in club type places, but mostly good bars/pubs. We don't really want to get into driving somewhere as once we go out for the night, we don't want to have to think about driving anywhere...

Thanks again for your help!

For lunch or after the game, as mentioned:
Tony Packos. The Front Street location is the original and most noted. I have not been to the one over near the baseball park, so I don't know what it's like.
Oliver House gives you a lot of choices.
Wesley's Bar and Grill is one I have not been to, so I can't comment on it.

For dinner The Beirut would be a great choice, and it's only minutes from the university. Check out the sauteed mushrooms. Mmmmmmmmm.....

The Dirty Bird is closed. It is now Jed's.

I guess given the time they will be in Toledo - not really going to be able to do a whole lot except right before and for a few hours after the game on Thursday. Flying out of Detroit early afternoon on 9/2 doesn't leave much time other than breakfast and maybe a trip to the zoo or art museum. Game will probably not be over much before midnight.

The docks are a great bet. Chinese investors just bought it and putting momey on right now. All restaurants will be open by the summer. Then i would head downtown to the irish pub near the baseball stadium. I was just there last fall and its sweet.....good crowd and some love music. I would stay crown plaza on the river.

Talk about not being able to put 2 and 2 together, it just occurred to me...

condolences to your team UNHWildcats05. I had to look it up to be sure but for those like me who haven't put it together, just a bit back a young man, a football player was killed in Boulder protecting his girlfriend from a robber. That young man was a player for UNH.

Thanks from everyone in Wildcat Nation... Talk about a dose of reality and putting things in perspective...Very sad story... Things in the program are slowly returning to normal, but it is definitely something that will be an underlying story for the upcoming season...

Anyway, on to more pleasant things, thanks for all the great tips!!

We should be in Toledo on Thursday around 11 am. I think plenty of time to grab lunch/do some sightseeing/grab some food and drinks before heading over to do some tailgating pregame. Thanks to you guys I think we have some great ideas on where we want to go. What time are bars open till in Toledo?

Thanks again for the info. and if I think of anything else, I will be sure to post here!!

How come they keep throwing me out at 1am?

I need a new agent.

Not too soon I suppose to remember to tell people there's no Douglass Rd Exit or entrance for about a year.

Great story from ABC 13 news on downtown Toledo and all the new business establishments that have opened near Fifth Third Field and the warehouse district. Any out of towners first 'Toledo experience' should include some stops at these fine drinking and eating establishments. Both the Park Inn and Crowne Plaza are walking distance to the warehouse district. My personal favorite would be The Blarney with live music every Friday and Saturday night...

Hello again,

We are trying to work out our tailgating plan for gameday.

Do the folks who operate the Jambulance welcome opponents fans?

Seeing as how we wont have any of our regular gear, it may be cool to tailgate with some Toledo fans.

Not sure what we are doing yet, but just a thought.

Thanks again.

I certainly don't speak for Pat (RangerRocket) but he has a reputation for being a gracious host to visiting fans.

Best lots to be in for Toledo fans are 10-9-5 and 25 IMO. If you are a visitor and want to do your own tailgate, I suggest 25. It's very open and is a good walk through some of the campus on breezy September nights.
