Justin Greene: All-American
Quote:KENT, Ohio – Kent State junior forward Justin Greene (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Lincoln) earned more well deserved accolades this week as he was named an All-American by three different organizations.

The 2011 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Greene was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press after leading the Golden Flashes with 15.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season. He was also tabbed a Mid-Major All-American by Collegeinsider.com and a Second Team Mid-Major All-American by CollegeHoops.net.

"Mid-Major All-American" is a contradiction in terms.

I don't think so. It's a clear grouping of teams. Two of them are in the Final Four. It's descriptive of resources, not quality of basketball.

You can't be an All-American if you exclude a significant portion of said America. You can be an all-Mid-Major, which is a lame award.

Not accepting segregation is *not* being a downer.

I know. I was joking. I would have used an emoticon, but none of them properly represent the goofy faces I make in reality.

RE: Justin Greene: All-American
There are many hundreds of mid-major players. Being one of the very best is a good thing. Pretending to be something you clearly are not is not a good thing. Again, "mid-major" is not a qualitative distinction.

Give me more credit than that. I rail against the Mid-Major top 25 poll, which has listed Ohio on several occasions. If they gave that "honor" to DJ Cooper, I would probably complain louder.

Butler and VCU are in the Final Four of ALL of Division I, not the Mid-Majors of Division I. They don't need a qualifier in front of their accolades.

RE: Justin Greene: All-American
This is no slight against Justin Greene. But I want to see real All-Americans, not all-Mid-Majors, all-Eastern Time Zone, or whatever.

This conference can do better. We should expect to do better.

AP All-American.

So feel free to ignore the rest if you like. I think it's all good.

AP automatically recognizes all divison 1 POY's as honorable mention All Americans. Same for the girls as Kortney Brown was also an honorable mention All American.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Greene is a solid player.
