"The largest regrets I've had in my life have been when I've disappointed people, when I've let people down," Tressel said while facing the media for the first time since March 8, when the violations were revealed. "The mistakes I've made are very disappointing. I'm sorry for that, as I've mentioned many times."

Dude, a mistake is forgetting to put the seat down after you pee.

You purposefully lied in hopes of winning some football games as you knew your star players would have been suspended immediately. That was no mistake but a planned fraud!

What a disgrace to the University this fool has become. No wonder they don't let him speak but once every three weeks!

Give it rest DeadWings. We had a President of the Untied States lie under oath and still kept his job. The whole NCAA is corrupt focused on protecting their money source. I do think Tressel was trying to protect Pryor but he didn't follow the guidelines for such a matter.

OSU Football will survive with or without Tressel.

At tOSU. Surely you jest!

You've obviously been away for awhile....tOSU has the toughest admission standards among state schools in Ohio.

I do love reading the same guys here posting about Tressel and "ZSU".......No insight, hyperbole, and anger....it's a broken record with some of you.

RE: Tressel Gone?
OSU passed Miami in the last decade as the most difficult state school to gain admission. That is simply the fact of the matter. However you want to measure it: ACT scores, class rank, GPA, valedictorians, OSU has become the most selective of the state universities. Do universities make exceptions in their admissions standards for athletes and special cases? Obviously.

I'm no fan of the big place, but facts are facts, although those who love or hate the place don't seem to be fond of facts that contradict their passions. They made an effort to increase the quality of their undergrad admissions, which were never near the bottom, and they certainly did that.

I hope he stays one more year. Ohio St loses to Akron and Toledo, finish the season 6-6, then they have no choice and Tressel leaves after one of the worst seasons in Buckeyes history.

Yes, the front door is guarded well. The back door remains squeaky and untended.

Long time creeper; I have to chime in here... A&M has what, 60,000 students? However, only something like four to six thousand enter each year as freshman. Selective right? But where are these 35-45 thousand extra undergrads coming from? While they have the "highest freshman admissions requirements" their student profile is not a product of their admissions standards.

Kids that go to Miami, go to Miami for four years. Kids that go to Ohio A&M transfer in from another college/university or come from their underachieving satellite campuses (the majority at least just by looking at basic enrollment numbers).

That being said, it's safe to say that when you run into a Miami grad, they are most likely the Miami grad their admissions department claims goes to their school. However when you run into an A&M grad (post open enrollment era) it not safe to make any assumptions because anywhere from 50-75% of people that graduate from A&M each year could not even "get in" to A&M. That my friend is a paradox and is the only fact I see when I look at the selectivity of Ohio A&M.

YES. The main campus of OSU was open enrollment for many years (except for Fall quarters). Back in 1991 or so, they started to become more selective on the Columbus campus. Now, many students start at one of the branch campuses and makes their way down to Columbus - OR - they actually graduate from the branch campus (and their diploma says OSU, and does not indicate any branch).

As Pulltown mentioned above, it wasn't until Elwood became President of the university the first time around (Sept. 1990) that A&M began the gradual increase to the admission standards they have today. With each BCS Bowl appearance and that one National Championship, the "selectivity" described above has kept increasing.

that is ridiculous

OSU was formerly open admission when i was in school.
I know it has improved since then but you don't get enormous by having tough admission standards.
