Requesting Data
I'm in the process of compiling a "did you know" about the MAC football programs. To save some time I thought I reach out to many of you. If you would, kindly list any interesting facts about your football program and/or about any current player or famous alumni.

Many thanks.

=============

Historical Example: Did you know that Dr. Lloyd Olds of EMU is the person responsible for the invention of the stripped shirts worn by football officials? He did this way back in 1914.

Current Player Example: Michigan RB Austin White transfered to Central Michigan and will be eligible for the 2012 season. Coming out of high school in 2009 he was rated a four-star recruit and the nation’s 15th-best running back by Scout.com; rated the fifth-best player in the state of Michigan according to Scout.com; three-star and the No. 11 player in the state of Michigan by Rivals.com & listed as the 10th-best all-purpose back according to Rivals.com

I don't know the facts, but you could check on the NIU board in regards to our a former band director who wrote many famous football related fight songs.

The Kent State "Twin Bands" were the first combined co-ed marching band in the country. They practiced separately and then performed together.

UB's (and Green Bay Packer's) James Starks is a cousin of Minnesota Timberwolve's Jonny Flynn.

They were part of a tremendous high school basketball team also included Paul Harris (Syracuse), Rob Garrison (UConn and Niagara), Greg Gamble (UB).

Former Ball State head coaches Paul Schudel (1985-94) and Bill Lynch (1995-2002) will serve as honorary coaches for the annual Red and White Spring Game on April 23 at the invitation of new head coach Pete Lembo.

"Paul Schudel and Bill Lynch are two coaching icons who are an integral part of Ball State's football history," Lembo says. "It is important they are also a part of our present and future. I am very excited they will be joining us for the Spring Game."

Hmm...

Did you know... that John Heisman (the guy they named the trophy after) was both Quarterback and Head Coach of the Akron Zips and still holds the record for best winning percentage at the program, and that he lead the Zips to their only win over Ohio State?

And BG players listening to Miley Cyrus to pump themselves up before the big game.....which is probably why they were down 21-0 in the 1st quarter. 03-wink

Seriously though, there's a lot of history of crazy stuff in our rivalry. BG accusing UT of cheating and using ineligible players and then stopping competition between both schools in all sports for a few years, UT beating BG 63-0 and then BG refusing to schedule UT for over a decade, one school stealing the peace pipe from the other (and the original peace pipe was never found after that), and so on and so on.

Yes, we know...the only reason we hold a series edge is because we stopped playing you for several years. 05-deadhorse

I actually went to school with one of Paul Schudel's nephews. Schudel came and spoke when I was a fifth grader in 1988 and brought a BSU football helmet. They may have been playing at UT or BG that week.

Umm, I'm not sure what you are talking about Tom, but the reason why BG holds the overall edge is because BG has won more games. Those 12 straight BG wins back in the 50's is the main difference. If I remember correctly, it's virtually dead even in the last 30 years.

Rockets have a 16-14 winning edge over BGSU the last 30 yrs.

But one of those wins really shouldn't count for us. It's hard to feel good about beating an opponent that gets ready for the game by listening to Miley Cyrus.

On second thought, it still feels good.
