No, not the departed Bruce Pearl ... Pat Summitt.
Okay, okay -- I know. There's no way it would happen, primarily because we couldn't afford her ($1MM+ per year), but also because it's unorthodox. But Kennesaw was one of the first schools to take a shot on a female University president -- why not be one of the first to take a serious shot at a female coach of a men's bb team? Can you imagine the national attention?
Perhaps Coach Summitt is up for a new challenge and would take a healthy salary cut to be able to take over a men's program. She's tough as nails and knows basketball. She has deep recruiting ties in the southeastern high schools, albeit on the women's side. Would some players fail to respect her given her gender? Sure. But she only needs 13 to respect her. Yes, the men's and women's games are played differently, but I'd actually like to see someone develop solid fundamentals rather than trying to constantly force alley-oops.
Of course, besides the salary, she has a good thing going in her Knoxville kingdom, where she continues to pile up trophies, and that would be hard to leave. But I wonder what she could do with a men's program in a major metropolitan area...
In any event, it would sure be worth a quick call for consideration.
Okay, flame away...
