Sigh........
Do you think, bucfan99, that there could be a difference when a player is "nationally ranked", between, say.......ranked #1, vs. ranked #50?
Currently, UT (#1) has players ranked #s 3, 12, 44, and 51. They have the #1-ranked doubles team. That's pretty awesome. If I recall, last year when we had to play them in the second round of the NCAAs, it was even better than that (and we even took a match off them, losing 4-1). I'm not sure of your source/data for ETSU having 4 players who were nationally ranked. That's possible, but I don't think so. Please provide some data for me on that. Certainly nothing like what UT has now. And certainly not a single one at the moment (although those things can change quite a bit this time of year). Individual player rankings go down through 125, and I don't think there's a single ASun player in the top 125.
And as far as making excuses, what? I'm certainly not. Yaser put it quite plainly in that interview - we're down from what we were, and the rest of the league is catching up. (By the way, Campbell is #68.) Tell me where I was making excuses. I think we've underachieved, and I'd most certainly like us to have done better - just like in basketball or whatever. But there's still a month left in the season. It'll be a dogfight at the conference tournament, for sure........
Right now UNF is ranked 75th - the very bottom of the rankings list (they only go to that number). Who knows? ETSU could be #76, although I doubt it. We were ranked 50th at the beginning of the year, although that's almost arbitrary, sort of like the RPI basketball rankings early in the season. When we lost to UNF, we were at that time #63, and they were #72.
All that being said, right at this minute, these rankings are posted at the ASun's website. Not sure where they're getting that, because that's not what the ITA and the NCAA show (which is what I used for the above numbers).
