JU in CIT
JU is in the CIT. It is the best that we could have hoped for given the way we finished out. JU plays at East Carolina on Tuesday.

I've got to pull for ECU as they are in our conference now - but congrats to JU - and if they do win, I'll be pulling for them to go the distance.

RE: JU in CIT
Teams are amazing similiar (statistics). JU rebounds a little better, ECU shoots the 3 better. Otherwise FG%, steals, blocks, scoring about the same.

RE: JU in CIT
A little background info about ECU.
http://www.ecupirates.com/#00
The coliseum has a capacity of 8,000 though the actual number of seats is less. Probably about 7,500. We have had just a terrible basketball program for decades. This is our most successful season in about 17 years.
All of our facilities are on a single athletic campus. We have had some huge renovations over the past several years and still going on today. Football was expanded to 50,000 with a new scoreboard just last season. There is a new softball stadium, new soccer stadium and new track and field. The baseball stadium is still "new". Just a few years old. We are in the fund raising phase of a new basketball practice facility. It should be very nice.
The school is about 28-29,000 students. A little over 100 years old now. Greenville, NC is a town of about 80,000 that pretty much revolves around ECU.
From what I am hearing the tickets are going slow. Maybe about 4,000 tonight.

Since even A-Sun fans don't seem too excited about the CIT...I'll update that JU beat East Carolina and then lost to Southern Methodist.

I like JU and the A-Sun in general, but you just don't write a game recap with a headline like " JU win stolen away by late call at SMU, 63-62." I know it's on JU's official athletic site, but I don't think it's appropriate to put opinions into a game recap . . . that's what sports columns and blogs are for. Maybe JU has a legitimate beef, but nonetheless . . . .

I have been following JU since the Gilmore days and I have to admit I was surprised by the headline. That said, I saw the play/call in question. I have absolutely no doubt that the call was totally bogus. .1 second on the clock in post season play and a phantom foul call is made? A perfect example of an official deciding to decide the outcome of a game.

21 hit Dia on the arm and head during the release of the shot (wish I had the photos/video because it would prove this). Really was a smart play, as without the contact that shot absolutely goes in. Most of the time the refs swallow their whistle in the final seconds and in this game, they didn't. Further, SMU still had to sink the shots, so it's not like the refs handed the game to SMU.
Anyway, it would be totally moot if 21 hadn't missed a dunk earlier in the game. Or if Dia hadn't been left totally uncovered for a pass into the paint.
