Is Chasse satisfied with the SBC?
Has anyone heard Chasse comment about our home in the Belt? I wonder if he has any ideas of making a move, even at some point out in the future, or if he is completely satisfied where we are.

I have heard nothing suggesting even a remote possibility of moving from the Belt. My question would be, where could we possibly go? There are rumors that Wichita State will move to the AAC which will further their strength as a basketball conference, but will make the MVC even less enticing then it is now. The Sun Belt is clearly improving as our conference RPI hasn't been this high in 20 years or more. Overall, that is a good thing. I think we can continue to be a very competitive team in the Belt, but winning the league will be increasingly difficult. The teams we have added like the Ga. schools, Coastal, UTA and Texas State have really made the league a lot better. ULL will always be good, ASU is coming back, and USA will come back one of these days. It really looks like the Belt is becoming one of the most solid midmajor conferences, top to bottom, in college basketball.

Like you, I question whether there is a realistic opportunity for Little Rock that would be any better than where we already are.

Really the best conference for us with regard to location and competition. Only question is whether one day the league requires football to remain a member. Kind of doubt that will happen, since both UTA and LR are pretty solid members in good metro areas.

Sounds good, but I don't believe that's realistic. One great season, in 3 decades, had me briefly delusional but I'm back to reality. We have some strengths and some limitations. We can be a solid Sun Belt team and finish in the top half of the league. Dominating this league is not going to happen.

Why not?

We recruited late and had sort of a rag tag team..

Coaching played a large part of it but we should be able to hire one.

Why yes? We have a nice arena and nice city, but are still a commuter campus with limited social life for students on campus. With regard to facilities, resources, and financial backing I would put us ahead of ULM. Other than that, I see us about on par with the rest of the teams in the Belt. Maybe a little bit better than some, certainly behind others. So we should win the league about once every 11 years. We haven't been able to do that, but hopefully can in the future. Every school in the league wants to "win" and many have more financial backing, less stringent academic standards, better recruiting bases, and larger fan bases. So what makes us stand out as "special"?

RE: Is Chasse satisfied with the SBC?
Its not like you guys have many places to go. The most obvious destination in the MVC is probably going to lose Wichita, and when they do Missouri State will knock incessantly on Karl Benson's door with flowers for the next 6 straight months.

I guess you could go Summit, but the travel in that league is far worse. Only real option would be Southland, which would give you an established rival in UCA, but also be a major step down competition wise. You guys aren't going anywhere unless the Sun Belt forces you, and the SBC isn't doing that.
