Womens Team
Lost a close one and ended 20-9 for the year. They have an outside chance at NIT or WBI bid but we'll see. Very disappointed in this year as I feel they wasted some good talent (Humes and Jones) because of lack of depth. Not hanging on to players for 4 years is really hurting this team. As far as next year is concerned it probably will be pathetic. Coming back are Francisco (1-2 minutes per game), Schaefer (if she improves she might attain Malorie Griffiths level), Stanton (a bit of a disappointment this year but has some potential), Butcher (1-2 minutes per game), Barroillet (backed-up four positions, hows that for depth? and did okay, I can see her being a starting wing or first off the bench next year) and finally a transfer, Krewson who I know nothing about. If your an optimist the center position and one wing is covered for next year. They signed no one in November. I guess my parting words are it looks like next year will be a stinker.

RE: Womens Team
I don't know if it is legal to respond to my own post but I will anyway. While watching the women's semis today it really became apparent how little talent and depth we really had. Humes and Jones can play for anybody but the rest of our players would be bench players at best on these 4 teams. We made it to the top tier of the Conference with 5 seniors but we were clearly the worst of the bunch and to be honest I think Akron was better than us at years end. We won that last game with experience not talent.
I think it might be time for Lindsey to move on. The game day coaching is still there but the recruiting is not. I don't think you can still blame it on the Rubis/Zona incidents from almost 10 years ago anymore. Unless he proves me wrong with the next recruiting class it might be time for a change. The wrestling and gymnastics teams out draw the womens team and that should not be. We need more talent and we especially need to develop some depth. We look like we will have neither next year and I am not sure this coaching staff is the best to correct that.

Unless they find some big time recruits, next year, and subsequent seasons beyond, could be well below average. Depth was not good at all this year. Look at the minutes per game for the starters, and it tells you all you need to know about what is coming up. I offer best wishes for all the seniors who gave their all to the program, I'm sure they will all enjoy success in their lives.

RE: Womens Team
The women's team is at Duquesne on Thursday in the first round of the WNIT. CMU, EMU and Toledo also made the field. It looks like a winnable game, but who knows? Kent State got hammered by a mad Michigan team last year.
I can live with high minute totals for the players. I think most college coaches sub too much. What really hurt this team is that the MAC gets deeper every year and they weren't a good enough shooting team to overcome bad play in other areas.
Kent State will never get back to the elite level until they find a good point guard. Gibson would have been a nice four-year bench player, not a four-year starter. Miller and Peoples are the best two PGs they have had in the last decade and both were one-year transfers. Look at what BG has had the last eight years with Achter and Pontius. What a difference. I like the post depth. Hopefully, one develops.

RE: Womens Team
Your right about the point guards. In the last 10 years they have had Gibson for 3, Willoughby for 3 (a Gibson clone, competent but not great), Bennett, O'Hara, Peoples and Zona for 1 (Miller was a 2 guard her 1 year moving Zona to the 1). Peoples was by far the best and we got her by accident. Oh where are you Dawn, Billy Jean and Michelle.
Yes the post could be alright if Stanton takes over the center position and Krewson turns out to be pretty good. Then Schaeffer and Francisco need to improve just a bit to be competent back-ups. However the guard position scares me to death.

If the women win tonight, they will play Saturday night at Kansas. Kansas has already announced that.

RE: Womens Team
They played well except for the last 7 minutes of the 1st half where they went from only 2 down to 13 down at the half. Cut it to six by the 10 minute mark but could not get over the hump losing 64-56. Decent season but not great. Now we will see what the coaching staff has up their sleeve if anything.
