Seriously, if by tomorrow morning the Big East were to deep six Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul and even Marquette would anyone miss them in the least? It would actually be addition by subtraction.

I think this is the real sentiment. The only reason why the basketball onlys got into the BE is because at the time of the VT, Miami raid the voting balance was set at 6 BB/6 FB so to win the football expansion votes the basketball schools had to be on board.

This is why I think the move ups of UConn and Villanova have been strategic because it brings the voting balance over to football schools. Say for whaterver reason the Big 10 decides to add ND and Rutgers, well the football schools would have a 9 to 6 advantage and would probably request 1 more football school as a replacement.

The role of the BE in football really is to be the entry level BCS conference in the East. BC was in the BE from the beggining but Miami and VT used the BE as a stepping stone for 12 years before moving on to the ACC. Any BE football school would jump at a Big XII or ACC offer and that is just a plain fact of life. As long as the BE can avoid being mortally wounded by a football raid things will probably go on as is. Basketball is too important for the BE to dismiss Georgetown, Marquette and St. John's in a split. The BE will need them if they lost Syracuse and UConn down the road.

Providence, DePaul, Seton Hall...no comment there. PU is propped up by political reasons by the BE office. SHU becomes important again if Rutgers leaves and the same with DePaul for ND.

ECU doesn't have an exclusive on that. Do they have the same commitment that Virginia Tech had? Doesn't look like it..hiring Ruffin McNeil as head coach doesn't appear to be a move made for long term football success.

I can understand questioning ECU's commitment to basketball success, but questioning our commitment to football shows a complete lack of understanding about what matters at ECU.

It saddens me to see Villanova as a distinct possibility to accept as a 10th member. Zero appeal for BE football. This is a joke played on the FB members of the BE by our BB "friends"...

That's why the Big East has always had "Basketball Only" Commissioners...as all 3 Commissioners in Big East history have all come from PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (also the reason why the Big East has their HQ in a Catholic Basketball Only team/school city).

While the Big East Football member schools bring in the most $$$$ (on average) to the conf and how all the other 5 BCS Conference saw that FOOTBALL was CASH KING...its the Catholic Basketball Only schools in the Big East that have always controlled the direction of the conf (hence their reign on hiring of the commissioners).

the commissioner was approved in a UNANIMOUS decision. it still amazes me how some people have such a low opinion of the FB schools that they think those schools are being controlled by the catholic minority (the non fb schools only have parity since the ACC raid)
