WARM TEMPS AND HOT VOLLEYBALL AWAIT COUGS: Another week, another couple of ranked teams for the Cougars...the Washington State volleyball team (15-6, 5-6 and tied for fifth in Pac-10) hits the road this weekend for the next to last time this season...WSU will journey to No. 19 Arizona State (10-5, 6-4) Friday night and No. 14 Arizona (11-7, 6-4) Saturday night...with the desert schools tied for third and WSU and travel partner Washington tied for fifth, this is a big weekend for the conference standings...WSU defeated both UA and ASU in Pullman in September.

#19 ARIZONA STATE (10-5, 6-4) - The Sun Devils are off to a solid season, surpassing last year's Pac-10 wins in the first half of the schedule...quality wins against ranked teams included Pacific, UCLA, and Arizona...Brazilian transfer Juliana Escobar (5-11, Jr. OH) leads the Sun Devils with 4.25 kpg (5th Pac-10), 3.32 dpg (5th Pac-10) and 0.62 sapg (2nd Pac-10)...coach Patty Snyder-Park is in her 14th and final season at ASU (211-174) as she is attacking motherhood full time next year...Arizona State leads the series with WSU 18-16 overall and 17-16 in Pac-10 match-ups...the Cougars have won the last three meetings...ASU leads the series in Tempe 9-7...Cougs won last year at ASU.

#14 ARIZONA (11-7, 6-4 pending 11/1 vs. Washington) - The Wildcats have a three-match win streak going...conference losses have come against USC, Stanford, Arizona State and WSU...freshman Kim Glass (6-2, MB/OH) leads the team with 5.02 kpg (3rd Pac-10), 5.91 ppg (2nd Pac-10), 0.47 sapg (4th Pac-10) and .319 hpct (8th Pac-10)....Lisa Rutledge (6-2, Sr. OH) adds 3.53 kpg...Bre Ladd (6-1, Fr. Opp) averages 1.05 bpg (10th Pac-10)...coach Dave Rubio (208-104, 11 years at Arizona - 328-169, 18 years career)...Arizona leads the series with WSU 24-10 and has a 24-9 advantage in Pac-10 play...Wildcats have an 13-3 lead when playing in Tucson where WSU last won in 1995.

COUGS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS: Washington State moved up three places to 17th in the USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll...other Pac-10 members in the poll include No. 1 USC, No. 6 Stanford, No. 14 Arizona, No. 18 UCLA, and No. 19 Arizona State...also receiving votes this week is Washington (No. 28) and California (No. 29)...Volleyball Magazine Top 20 poll had not been updated in time for this release.

NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS: Washington State is tied for seventh in the latest NCAA Division I Volleyball Regional Rankings for the Pacific Region, released Oct. 23...the biweekly rankings include the top ten teams in each of the eight regions, achieved through a vote of coaches and administrators in each region using team records as of Oct. 20...the Pacific Region includes the Pacific-10, Big Sky and West Coast Conference member schools...the final rankings are used by the NCAA Championship Tournament selection committee to choose at-large berths to complete the field of 64 teams, comprised first of 31 conference champions who receive automatic bids...the next rankings will be released Nov. 6.

WSU VOLLEYBALL'S ABC CAMPAIGN: Cougar volleyball and the Breast Cancer Support Group of the Palouse, known as the Bosom Buddies, have joined together for the Attacking Breast Cancer (ABC) Pledge Drive...October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Cougar players will be collecting monetary pledges for each attack which results in a kill (and a point) for WSU during the eight matches this month...the tally for the Cougar team was 481 kills...at monetary tally is expected at the end of November.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Head coach Cindy Fredrick is coaching her 14th season on the Palouse...her record at WSU is 260-170 (.605) while her overall collegiate record is 346-230 (.601) in 18 years...her Pac-10 record is 120-123 (.494) in 14 years...assistant coaches are her husband, Dr. Mashallah Farokhmanesh (14th year), and former Cougar standout, Jennifer Stinson Greeny (third year).

MISS "T" IS ASSAULTING COUGAR VOLLEYBALL RECORDS: Senior LaToya Harris became just the third Cougar in school history to reach both 1,000 kills and digs in a career...Harris joined Keren Oigman (1,054 kills, 1,070 digs) and Shannon Wyckoff (1,051 kills, 1,254 digs), who both played for Cougar coach Cindy Fredrick from 1994-97...Harris, the four-year starter and two-time first team All-Pac-10) is currently fourth in Washington State University career kills (1310) and aces (123), and fifth in digs (1062)...Harris is among the top 40 players in Pac-10 all-time kills and all-time digs, and the 43rd player in the conference to reach 1,000 kills and digs.

ANOTHER HARRIS EQUALS MORE MARKS: Holly Harris, senior MB, added a season-high 10 blocks against USC Oct. 26...Harris continues moving up the Cougar all-time blocking records...she is eighth in solo blocks (49), block assists (300) and total blocks (349).

JAMTAAS REACHES 1,000 DIGS: Though this is the first season for the Libero position, WSU senior Kortney Jamtaas has spent a career diggin' with the best of them in the Cougars' back row...Jamtaas became the sixth player in WSU history to reach 1,000 digs in a career...she is second in the Pac-10 in digs per game average at 4.07 dpg...her 30 digs against Washington missed the school match record by only two digs.

MORE NUMBERS FOR YOUR NOGGIN: In Pac-10 team stat standings, WSU is ahead of Arizona State in every category...WSU has the advantage over Arizona in opponent hitting percentage, kills, digs and assists while the Wildcats lead the Cougars in hitting percentage, service aces and blocks...NATIONALLY, thru 10/20 matches, Brenn Larson was 27th in assists...WSU was 19th in kills.

NATIONAL ATTENDANCE RANKINGS: WSU is tied at 22nd in the national attendance rankings with an average home attendance of 1,125 fans (9 home matches)...the WSU average for the Pac-10 matches is 1,418 fans...Hawai'i leads the nation with an average of 7,089 fans (17 home matches)...Arizona is the top Pac-10 school with 2,813 (8 matches), including the 9,141 fans watched the Arizona - Stanford five-game match as part of the Midnight Madness basketball practice opening event.

COUGAR VOLLEYBALL ON TELEVISION: FOX Sports Net broadcast two Cougar volleyball matches this season...the Sept. 27 match at USC was the screen debut for the Cougars and WSU's five-game win over UCLA Oct. 25...ALSO, viewers in the Northwest can catch the FOX Sports NW new weekly show, On Campus With the Cougs, every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. PT...interviews and feature stories on Cougar student-athletes, coaches and special events with Brian Webber.

BEATIN' 'EM IN BOHLER GYM - ADVANTAGE COUGARS: During the last nine seasons (1991-1997, 2000-02) WSU has used Bohler Gym as its home court, the Cougars racked up a 184-77 record (.705), averaged 22 wins per season, and made nine post season appearances...average attendance for this year's home matches is 1,115 fans (25th nationally)...average attendance to date for Pac-10 home matches is 1,548 fans.

PAC-10 COACHES PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONS: Stanford (nine Pac-10 titles, five national crowns) was selected to successfully defend its league championship in 2002...the Cardinal edged USC by a mere four points but garnered seven of the coaches' first-place nods...Arizona, an NCAA national semi-finalist last year, was predicted to finish third followed by UCLA and Washington State...the bottom half of the predictions show Oregon State, Arizona State, California, Washington and Oregon...the Pac-10 coaches have correctly selected the conference champion in eight of the 13 previous polls...coaches do not vote for own team.
