RE: PSR on Kill
It was a good article. The only thing I question is saying that Kill took over on a down year. We had injuries and Novak knew he was finished so he did not burn red shirts to win a game or two. He left Kill with a solid talent base. My issue with Kill as you move up the coaching rung is his ability to recruit. When he walks into a recruits house, he does not look like a high powered coach. He kind of dumpy with a redish face. I think he is a good coach but does not present himself like others might. He will recruit though. He will get good players that fit his system and he will win. Then as he wins, he will get better players and win more. He will suceed at Minnesota

Love PSR. Don't care much about the Minnesota coaching situation. Hopefully he'll churn out a typically well studied post on the DD hire.

then why, IMO, are his NIU classes very good. I am told he developed a very family type envoirment with the players and that does not go unnoticed by the parents. All have to get over this. He left, all were disappointed, but there is very little if anything to critisize him about. He did what he needed, leave us in a good position. Move on

RE: PSR on Kill
pretty fair asssessment IMHO.

Lord how I have grown tired of the refrence to him inheriting & turning around an NIU team with a poor record but at least this report documented the positive seasons beforehand.

RE: PSR on Kill
Seems like the recruiting classes are still a question at this point, aren't they? Not that they're bad, we just don't know how good they really are yet. I do think it remains to be seen how well he'll be able to recruit in Minnesota, but that goes for anybody moving up to that kind of job in a BCS conference. I suspect, as the article says, that he'll have them playing fundamentally sound football, and they'll probably improve. They have a ways to go though.

I think he will suceed. Just saying he looks a little goofy.

RE: PSR on Kill
"Success" may be difficult to clearly define. Over .500 for two or three consecutive yrs and a bowl appearance may suffice. Will it be enuff to keep his job five yrs?

If there is an award for a guy who looks least like a college coach, Kill is among the leading contestants but the guy is a winner which matters most. While small in stature he is a tuff & demanding son of a gun.

Johnny Wooden proved you do not need to be an imposing figure to be a successfull coach in college athletics.
Who was less imposing than Tom Landry in pros?

Not sure if either could lead teams to that degree of success nowadays. Parity and prima donnas abound.

Sorry biz majors but Kill's first stereotypical impression is one of a retired accountant.

Well at least I am not "retired" yet.

RE: PSR on Kill
Being a retired accountant I resent the comparison to Jerry Kill. I came in third place last year during Spring Break in Cancun in the Sexy Man on the Beach Contest at our hotel. If they had a Senior's Division I would have won. It did my old bones good to have coeds cheering for me.

Why were my wife and I at Spring Break, because when we were in college we had no money. Now we have the time and money, Thanks NIU.

Credibility kind of goes away with N.I.U. Using the dots makes it look like the authors first article on college sports. I strongly disagree with the article. Right now Minnesota is a demotion in terms of where the programs are at. Its more money but a step down in terms of football program strength and health.

U of Minnesota of the big ten is a step down. I think you need therapy. NIU is a large part of my social life and I hope for eternal success, but I am realistic. Minn will be fighting for that second tier in the big ten, behind Penn St, Mich, OSU Neb, and thats ok.

This post starts with a facepalm and works its way downward from there.
