But who's counting!

Me: Vindicated.

as it stands now OU could make it to the finals without facing Kent, Akron, Miami or Buffalo. Thats craziness.

That is why somebody on here will say after a late-season loss they were happy their home team lost because it is better to be the No. 6 seed than the Nos. 3 or 4 seeds.

Given that the No. 6 seed has not made a habit of winning the MAC tournament over the years, I don't think it means much.

=>I think you mean Nos. 1 or 4 seeds. 3 seed is always better than the 6 because it is the same path the the finals sans the first round game vs. the #11 seed.

Actually meant Nos. 4 and 5 seeds, but yeah same point. No. 3 seeds haven't lit the world on fire either.

OT, mostly. I live near Chicago and now pass two Miami University billboards bragging about being #2 in undergraduate education in the US News and World Report survey on the way to work. I have a long commute, but I'm wondering if any Miami people have any insight into this.

BTW, no Akron, Kent, Toledo, BGSU, NIU, WMU, EMU, CMU or Ball State billboards on the way to work. Or Buffalo.

which way do you take to work? there are NIU billboards on I-88, I-90, I-294 North (near O'Hare), I-294 South, and I-290. i've seen a Miami one

MAC Tourney If Today (Post-02/15/11 games):
=>Things got a lot more muddier in the middle. Kent can basically win the East division with a win tomorrow at Miami. Miami would be very close to wrapping up a 1st round bye by holding serve at home vs. the Flashers.

Somebody break up Akron! After the February 3rd games, Akron was sitting in the #11 seed with a 3-5. 12 days later, the Zips have run off 4 straight to make it to 7-5 and are now sitting with a 1st round bye. Incredible!

The bracket is listing all quarterfinal games as TBA, so I bet Thursday is not dramatically different than years past. I assume they will just wait to see if the East teams end up in seeds 1, 4 and 5 and of course make that the night session.

MAC Tourney If Today (Post 02/21/11 games):
=>I was just informed there is a new tiebreaker system has been put in place (see link below). Miami is still #1 seed, but for a different reason (better East Div. record than Kent).

I am waiting on clarification from the MAC on whether if you have a 4+ way tie (like in the case of Akron, BG, BGSU, and WMU right now), after determining the group winner of the 4 (or more) via head-2-head records, does the team with the 2nd best record get the next seed or do I redo a head-2-head record among the remaining teams.

If not, the tournament looks like above (except the * rationale for Miami over Kent changes).

If so, that would change the order of the the #5-7 seeds and the tournament would like like below.

MAC Tourney If Today (Post-02/21/11 games):

First Round (Campus Sites): Tuesday, March 8, 2011

GM 1: 12. Toledo (1-11) @ 5. WMU (7-5)$#^ – TBA
GM 2: 11. NIU (3-9) @ 6. BGSU (7-5)#^~ – TBA
GM 3: 10. EMU (4-8 ) @ 7. UB (7-5)#^~ – TBA
GM 4: 9. CMU (5-7) @ 8. Ohio (6-6) – TBA

Quarterfinals (Cleveland): Thursday, March 10, 2011
GM 5: 1. Miami (9-3)* – East Champ vs. Winner GM 4 – 12:00pm (STO)
GM 6: 2. BSU (7-5)$ – West Champ vs. Winner GM 3 – 30 mins after end of GM 5 (approx 2:30pm) (STO)
GM 7: 3. Kent (9-3)* vs. Winner GM 2 – 7:00pm (STO)
GM 8: 4. Akron (7-5)# vs. Winner GM 1 – 30 mins after end of GM 7 (approx 9:30pm) (STO)

Semifinals (Cleveland): Friday, March 11, 2011
GM 9: Winner GM 5 vs. Winner GM 8 – 7pm (STO)

mollautt,

i'm still trying to figure out how you broke the tie between OHIO, BG, and UB. i see where BG is 2-1, OHIO is 2-2, and UB is 1-2. to me, that breaks it. but then you went ahead and broke OHIO and UB again even though we're not tied anymore after applying the first criterion. it seems to me BG would be 6, OHIO would be 7, and UB would be 8. not that i'm quibbling at this point since it doesn't matter yet anyway, i'm just trying to figure out why you added the second level when it didn't appear to be necessary. thanks!

You break the three-way tie for 6th. Then, you have a two-way tie for 7th, so you go back to the first tiebreaker to break that one.
