I enjoyed JJ rebounding but those 2 seasons were the ugliest I've seen. I still remember that nightmare game against FIU when we barely scored in the 1st half.

Worst I ever recall, and MJS and PTJR will recall this because they were there I believe. It was at La Tech during Fish's senior season. Or it could have been his junior year. But anyway, he had a cast on one of his hands, and still played. But neither team could hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle. I think the score was 12-9 at the half. I'm not sure who was the 12 and who was the 9, but I've never seen anything like that ever again. It was absolutely atrocious. Nobody could score.
It was grinder ball to the enth degree!03-banghead

If he shot 44%, just think what he'd have shot if he could hit a layup. He missed a ton of put backs while he was here.

That was the motor-home cruise with E/D. I made that trip. There was some serious beer being consumed.

I will always wish I could have seen JJ playing a true power forward instead of an undersized 5.

I didn't realize you were on that trip. I guess I didn't know you then. Actually I was a newbie. I knew MJS and PTJR, and Ed, but not many more. Those were fun days. We made several road trips in his motor home. All to Ruston on my part. Two or three to La Tech, and one or two to Grambling. Were you on the Grambling trip when Ed nearly got thrown out of the gym in the first minute or two of the game? That was really funny.

Hey Doc, have you heard anymore from Ed about what you reported earlier, about his not returning to any Trojan games? I haven't seen him at any game since you posted that. That would be a shame to lose a great fan like E/D. I hope Chris Peterson will get that straightened out. And I'm not talking about his financial support. I'm taking about a great fan and supporter. A fan travels to places like Tech and Grambling, not financial supporters.

No. I had happened to see him at the golf course one day, but haven't seen him since. I haven't been to the course in quite awhile due to the weather, so I've had no occasion to see him. I don't know what's going on now, but like you I haven't seen him at any of the games, although I haven't really been looking. Hadn't really thought about it for awhile, but you're right. We don't need to lose loyal fans like him. Hopefully things will be worked out.04-cheers

I haven't been looking for him either, but he's hard to miss when he's right under the basket, and giving the officials help when they need it.

I predict we will win big. I think the unusual circumstances with Joe coaching for the first time will have the team loose, and they will play well.

If that is indeed the case, we need to consider having Coach Kleine coach his first time every game.

It would be interesting if Coach Kleine had the initiative to make some changes in the lineup, but I would imagine he has his instructions from the head man to keep things the same. But it will be interesting to see how he manages the game. Especially if the game is close, which it probably will be. I look for us to win, but by a minimal margin. I hope we don't play like our women did last night. That could be a disaster.

Looking at the stats:

We won the boards by a couple. Good to see that.

19 assists against 10 turnovers. Almost a 2:1 ATO - as a TEAM. That is even more impressive to me than the 3-point shooting.

RE: Official ULM Thread
ULM is a bad team, there's not much else you can say. We shot unbelieveably well. Obviously the three pointers tell the tale on the shooting. I couldn't believe that it took ULM so long to get out of the zone. Had they done so much quicker, it would have been a closer game no doubt.

I do believe that the team was more relaxed with Joe Kleine doing the Joe Foley coaching impersonation, instead of the Steve Shields impersonation. Joe wasn't up running up and down the sideline, screaming at them the entire game, and I believe that they were more relaxed and able to play relaxed. It works for Foley and I think that it'll work better for any basketball team. It just makes sense that if your coach or your parent are constantly yelling at you during the game, you aren't able to concentrate on your game.

Am I ready to give the job to Joe permanently? No, but he did show some good signs that he might make a good head coach some day. I'm sure the game plan set by Shields, but the sustitution was done by Big Joe, and I thought he did a good job of it. He didn't run players in constantly, and jerk them out the first time they missed a shot or made a mistake. It was fun to watch, and I'll always believe that part of the reason they played so well, was that they were relaxed. I don't believe any of that horse **** they put out about "let's win one for the Gipper", or make that "win one for the Shields." I believe that if Shields had been there, we would have won fairly comfortablely, by about half the margin we actually had.

What would you expect them to say?

Joe didn't want to stand up and block the fans view. I did see him shouting instructions for his seated position.

Well, that is a point. Big Joe does block the view a lot more than an ordinary person.

I just ordered a book called "scream free parenting". the author of that book should follow up with "Scream free coaching"
