Remember, it wasn't a fictional president... they used actual footage of George W. Bush and made it a story of his assassination.

No, that's just free speech. However, Sarah Palin putting crosshairs on a map of congressional districts? She might as well have the blood on her own hands! [/sarcasm]

I love that this thread is now a slamfest of "Libs" and Democrats... Both sides are just as guilty as the other. For every idiot Lib, there is an equal ******* in the Conservative arena. It happens, get over it. We need to try to be more moderate, and LESS extremist in our approach... but what the hell do I know?

Oh, by the way, before we forget. There are 6 dead. 5 or so critical injuries, and another 4 serious injuries.

And I love to see ChickenHawk crawfishing. You've chosen to forget that you started in on Conservatives on this board in the beginning of this thread. So much for liberal moderation. Classic.

No, SumofallWhatevers... I started by going after extremists on both sides, but, it's evidently impossibly for you to comprehend anything someone outside of yourself writes. And I seem to recall you going after "libs" the entire thread, so please, you're about as moderate as they come I suppose. That's a big LOL!

This just goes back to George Washington opposing political parties. They do nothing but encourage this gap in our society and discourage moderate thinking. Now we have this massive blamefest with both sides playing the victim and accuser. It seems that both sides can find a million examples of the wrongdoings from the opposing side. It seems as though they still fail to sit back and admit to themselves that they are each responsible for this type of thinking.

Well, I started my comments on this thread by saying it was early, not all the facts were known. I said to watch to see how this was reported in the media.

When I read yesterday's NYT column, "Bloodshed Puts New Focus on Vitriol in Politics." what I had expected to see appeared. Numerous examples of conservatives being bad and saying mean things. But not so strangely, the NYT and their writer have the usual selective memory. Not one single example was given from the left. Apparently, they never, ever, happen as they are the tolerant group. Most of us have gotten wise to their games in reporting.

RE: Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Shot In Head at Tucson Grocery
Loughner had this in his back yard. Yea, I see these at Tea Party Rallies all the time. Anyone who tries to say that this tragedy is the fault of the Tea Party, Beck, Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy, or anyone else besides the lunatic kid that pulled the trigger is acting wholly dishonest and totally irresponsible.

Besides, Loughner is alive, and I'm sure will be pleading insanity, so we will get to know his real opinions inside and out in the not too distant future.

A sinister shrine reveals a chilling occult dimension in the mind of the deranged gunman accused of shooting a member of Congress and 19 others.

Hidden within a camouflage tent behind Jared Lee Loughner's home sits an alarming altar with a skull sitting atop a pot filled with shriveled oranges.

A row of ceremonial candles and a bag of potting soil lay nearby, photos reveal.

Experts on Sunday said the elements are featured in the ceremonies of a number of occult groups.

The discovery of the shrine raises the possibility that Loughner, 22, may have been driven by other forces. Students and faculty at Pima Community College, which he attended until his suspension last summer, said Loughner was clearly at odds with the world.

This thread is a fail. No one is to blame for this loons decision to harm others but HIM. The "why" in all this is simple...he is a mentally disturbed psychopath.

I've been thinking about something regarding this incident and I haven't seen or heard any discussion of this anywhere else.

I wonder if this deranged individual didn't just assume that he would be killed (kind of a suicide by cop, although it probably would have been by another armed citizen)?

Apparently, he left his "final thoughts" in a youtube video and maybe on his FB page. I suspect that his page has long ago been scrubbed and is gone. I would think that that phrase and his statement to friends to "not be mad at me" might suggest he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and become some kind of martyr for all the other crazed/unstable anarchists.

Wonder how he is going to adapt to his new buddies like Bubba, his soon to be cellmate? I wonder if he even thought about prison? I wonder if he was capable of that?

On a related topic

This one surprised me.

Howard Kurtz wrote the only intelligible thing I've ever read by him in The Daily Beast. You want to read unhinged lunatics? The crazed NY libs literally swarmed the comments section. Some actually attacked him for pointing out how the use of military terminology has been used by journalists for decades while covering politics.

Quote:Let's be honest: Journalists often use military terminology in describing campaigns. We talk about the air war, the bombshells, targeting politicians, knocking them off, candidates returning fire or being out of ammunition. So we shouldn't act shocked when politicians do the same thing. Obviously, Palin should have used dots or asterisks on her map. But does anyone seriously believe she was trying to incite violence?

Quote:The act of transforming tragedy into political fodder has deep roots in American history. After the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, President Bill Clinton attacked "the purveyors of hatred and division" for "reckless speech," saying the nation's airwaves were too often used "to keep some people as paranoid as possible and the rest of us all torn up and upset with each other. They spread hate, they leave the impression that, by their very words, that violence is acceptable."

I rarely ever agree with Kurtz. He was in rare form with this one.

I think Loughner planned to save the last bullet for himself. But we got lucky and finally took a mass murderer alive for once.

His legal team includes Judy Clarke, who represented the Unabomber. While the Federal Insanity Defense is next to impossible to maintain, this kid probably won't get the Needle. Instead he will be sentenced to Life in the Looney Bin.

I think his lawyer should be commended for being an advocate for the most hated people around... That takes some balls, because you know some nutcase is gonna target her, and her family.

He doesn't get the coward's way out. He has to answer to the charges in Court, and gets to spend the rest of his life in a living Hell of his own making.

I have a good friend who is a defense attorney. He has defended lots of murderers over the years. I asked him one day..."How in the hell can you stand defending this people..even if you know damn well they are guilty?'
He said..."If I do my job correctly and leave NO stone unturned and try my best to get my client off...then the system works and I sleep well knowing that these people will NEVER get back into society because of something that I missed"

This trial will be a HOLE. LEE. CIRCUS, as all sides hang onto every utterance, every piece of discovery, every piece of minutiae as evidence that some side of the political spectrum is 100% directly responsible for this asshat.

Maybe he was smart enough to know a trial and national attention would make him infamous, fame he could never have in real life.

http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/10/sarah-...-violence/

While, I don't agree with Sarah Palin, or Glenn Beck's political views... violence is never acceptable in political discourse. From curbstomping an activist at a rally, to gunning down a representative.

Though, I'd tell Glenn Beck... This Republic is bigger than any one person, or their family.

And yes, the worry I have is with the kneejerk reaction of Congress. Senators, by virtue of their office, longer terms, and older age, are meant to be insulated from their constituents. Representatives aren't. They serve for 2 years and are intended as an accessible link to the legislature for their constituents. I worry that now, they will end up very insulated, and even more out of touch with the people around them and in their districts.
