Over the last few season I think the Cats had red jerseys for the Xavier game. With the throwbacks in play this year, I prefer to see those used instead of the red uniforms.

Happy to hear we're wearing the throwbacks tonight, largely to let xu and their crappy fans get a little reminder of UC's long history of success. That being said, I've never understood some getting so geeked over these uniforms. First, they're not real throwbacks, unless they come out sporting nuthugger shorts and Chuck Taylors, and second, I don't know why some people (like Mo Egger, C. Trent for example) seem to think that old and plain uniforms with nothing particularly distinct about them equate with super cool and chic.

I hear the UC players are also going to shoot all their free throws underhanded to pay tribute to the past.

real throwbacks would have been short shorts being worn. I dont look at these uniforms as throwbacks to the past.

I guess the NFL doesn't have throwbacks because the players wear modern helmets (and no I'm not equating player safety to fans not having to seeing the size of players packages)

what's cool about the "Spirit of 61" jerseys is that they harken back to a day when the jerseys didn't have claws, wings, beaks or whiskers. The kids just played their butts off.

The jerseys were good enough for five straight Final Fours, three straight championship games and two straight National Championship victories. So they're good enough for today.

I wouldn't mind if we switched to these permanently, as long as they play their asses off when they wear them. But if you play like a punk then you've got to wear the nasty, modern crap.

Great post!! The best part about them, especially tonight was the reminder of the rich history that our program has. All of eggs fans can always hang their hat on the fact that they ALMOST beat Duke in the Elite 8 a few years back....And that ONE OTHER Elite 8 they made when they got throttled by UCLA.
